Default dented oil pan

Will a dented oil pan cause any problems? My oil pan has a big dent in it(don't know how it got there). Here is a pic:

Yes that will cause a problem, take it off and try to hammer that big dent out.

that dent is pretty huge...what motor are you running? let me know if it's a B18A/B...i have an oil pan that can replace that and the oil pick up and the windage tray...

Ouch. A dent like that can mess with your oil pickup. Better replace it.

Had a huge dent in mine for a while. Depends on which side it is on and how big though. A dent that size will likely trick your car into thinking it has more oil in it than it really does. since the dent is displacing some space.

But my car ran fine with a dent.. don't think it was that big though.

The safest thing to do is to pull the oil pan, and then beat the dent back out. Also make sure you didnt damage the oil pick up line.

And do not drive the car anymore until that is done.

replacing the oil pan is as obvious as it looks? Just undo the bolts and catch all the oil that comes out? is there a gasket to worry about?

i know it's obvious but drain the oil before you take off the pan so you don't have to catch it when it comes out. just undo the bolts, and use plenty of gasket sealant when you put it back on to prevent leaks.
