1996 Civic LX - Can't decide what route (motor) to go with?
Ok so I have my 1996 Civic LX (four door) sitting in my garage. I am currently 22 years old unemployed, been looking for a new job since forever. My car has been off the road sitting for months now and I also have a suspended drivers license for speeding tickets and such when my car was automatic lol. I've grown up since then and eventually when I get my license cleared up and my act together, I would like to build my car back up.
It had a D16Y7 stock with a automatic transmission in it. It blew up because I spun a bearing from low oil consumption. Then I converted it to 5 speed and had gotten a D16Y7 again with a D16Z6 transmission and used the auto harness and blew that up as well because I forgot to hook up the "crank fluctuation sensor" to my auto harness.
Now I am looking to start fresh and do everything the correct way. I'm not TOO worried about gas, would like something with pep and speed. Someone steer me in the right direction. As of right now, I do NOT have a budget. I am just looking to explore my options. I am familiar with all the Honda motors but would like some feedback as to what would be a good option for me.
I would prefer not to go boost as, obviously, I don't have the funds to maintain something like that. I was considering, ANOTHER Y7 swap, but they really are dated & slow. Help!

Broke and no job? So budget=$0. Nothing to suggest to you man. Fixing up cars costs money as you well know and this really isn't a technical question.

Get the biggest displacement engine you can get with the money you have
since you say you have no budget this seems like kind of dreaming thread its like me starting a thread about asking which K series motor is the best but i have no money but im just exploring my options kind of a waste of time and lots of flame about to come with it

once you get some money, if you still want to do this i would say GSR b18c1 is a solid bet. easy to do. Otherwise you could try b20 or something. or even h22, k if you find a bunch of money. B series is probably the easiest and best bang for the buck without doing a turbo D.

a good bang for the buck would be a b18b1 (LS) but if you have enough money when time comes i would go with the b18c1 (gsr) like stated above they are a very solid motor.
