1995 Honda Del sol 5 spd- Idle issue (yes I searched but it's a unique situation)
Thank you for letting me become a new member. I finally bought my first Honda. Been wanting a del sol since I was 15 years old. I've always had chevy. Anyways I did try searching but couldn't find what I was looking for. So I bought the car with an engine swap. This thing has parts from alot of different vehicles. It's got a d16y7 engine from a 2000 civic. A d15b7 intake manifold and throttle body. (I think 92 civic) and the harness and computer from a 1995 Honda ex (d16z6). The car runs great but on occasion when I drive it the rpms get stuck at 1500. I have mash the gas pedal and then itll come back to normal. Makes the car difficult to drive. Any ideas? I included some pictures

Sounds like either the throttle blade (butterfly) or throttle cable is sticking. Over time/wear the throttle blade shaft can slightly bend and the perimeter edge of the throttle blade may touch the throttle body bore.
I have a similar situation with mine and what helps for a few months is to remove the air intake, push the throttle blade into the full open position and use a light coat of synthetic grease (Napa's Syl-Glide) or WD-40 around the perimiter edge of the throttle blade and on the TB's bore that the blade might touch. I also spray the the return spring and throttle blade shaft located between the throttle pulley (ear) and TB housing.
Check is throttle cable tension: shouldn't be too loose or too tight. Here's a link to adjustment: https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-...cable-2868260/
Another thing to check is the throttle cable holder the throttle cable rest in..the fitment inside the cable holder could be too tight and restrict the cable/throttle blade from returning properly. The acble holder looks similar to this: https://picclick.com/Honda-Pc800-Pc-...473634630.html

The throttle cable should be noticeably slack when no one is pressing the gas. Move the adjustment nuts to achieve that.
When it gets stuck at 1500, open the hood and check if the throttle cable is slack. If it is slack, the throttle body is stuck. If it is taut, the throttle cable is stuck. Throttle cable is only about $25. If throttle body gets stuck you should remove it from the intake to clean thoroughly. There will likely be a lot of black gunk on the back side of the throttle plate that you can't see or remove any other way.

nice looking sol.
my guess:
bent/kinked/sticky throttle cable
floor mat holding down throttle pedal
questions:
where is your intake filter?
running a VTEC ECU on a non-VTEC setup will result in CEL on and run like crap? (or is the head from a Z6/Y8? or is the ECU chipped?)

I keep my throttle body very clean and it still sticks occasionally. I also have the cable properly adjusted. On mine, removing the throttle cable from the cable holder (at U bend location) and lubing the throttle blade, shaft and return spring solved the issue. I lubed it a few weeks ago but it was almost six months prior to that...it's a five minute fix.
