My friend just bought an EK coupe and wants to get 18" rims on it (don't flame please). What tire size would he need for it to fit perfectly? Also would it be worth his while to get a better suspension setup (shocks + springs)? This is his first car, so blah.

Also I searched, but couldn't find the answer I was looking for. Thanks.

you will prolly need to run 35 or 40 series tires. prolly even have to roll the fenders. im not even sure if you can really fit a 18x7.5 wheel under there. good luck though

Depending on how wide you will have to roll the fender. I would say 40 would be good.

I'd go with 35 series tires. It will fit. He's gona look like a 4x4 if it isnt lowered, but if he lowers it, be careful of rubbing. Rub the wrong place and say goodbye to your tire.

There is a CRX where i work with 18s and a 35 series tire with no rolled fenders.

if ur buddy's wheels are chrome, then I would suggest an airbag suspension setup (4 da real racers) and don't forget the underbody glowkits (4 intimidation). HAHA J/P

He should probably get some modestly priced coilovers + struts, 40 series tires and of course he needs to have all his fenders rolled.

The PROPER answer to your question is, he'll need 215/35/18 for tires size for the correct overall diameter. They are considered the largest sized tires that you can put on a Civic without modification. Tell your buddy that his car will ride like a tank and it'll slow him down because those wheels will be heavy, to prepare him so he'll know what he's getting into.

Thank you. He doesn't race, drag, or anything like that so he won't care that it slows him down. I'll post pics of his car when he's done with it, He's getting Volk TE37's (he's also doing a 5-lug converision).

Yes, he's totally correct... 215/35/18 are the biggest tires you can put on an EK, but just make sure to watch out for offset. Back in the day, I used to rock the Racing Hart C5 3 piece 18 inch rims (it cost 3300 with tires... and people get flamed for spending 2500 on real Mugens... ha!) with that same size tires with I think a 48mm offset. I adjusted my coilovers to have about a 1/2 inch wheel gap all around, and I rubbed a lot when turning. The rear tires were cambered just enough so that they'd tuck inside the rear fenders without having to roll anything. The front tires rubbed enough to mess up my fender liner. Also, whenever I'd make full u-turns, the inner part of the rim would rub up against the inside of my car.
But like other people said, tell your friend to get adjustable coilovers or anything to adjust the ride height, or else it will look like a 4x4. Even with a closed wheel gap, it will look too high, but to each his own. IMO, even though I still think 17's are too big, 17's would look better because you could be lower without rubbing as much as you would with 18's.

Thank you for the reply. 18" rims are rather big . He likes em' so I really don't care. The thing is, the TE37's dont look as big as other 18" rims as I have seen. So maybe it might look decent. Big to you for a serious reply.
