1.5vtec ref??
My buddy has a 1.5 sohc vtec motor in his 93 civic hb. its just a normal d15b, but with the vtec. he got pulled over the other night for his exhaust being too loud (supposedly) and the cop made him pop the hood. The cop noticed his header (its not carb legal..) so the cop gave him a ref ticket. last night he was talking about just swappin a nonvtec d15 back in...but i think that as long as he puts his stock header back on he should be fine right?
also...his ecu is for an automatic vehicle but he has s 5spd tranny. it throws some sort of auto tranny code (obviosuly since it wasnt made to work with a manual). do u think they'll care at the ref station about this?

tell ur friend not to run the car so high where everyone and there mother will hear it and he shouldnt have any problems. And for the ecu he should get one for a manual so the shift points will be alot smoother and his check engine light will go off. As for the header its up to him whether he wants to sacrafice HP for quietness or just stop driving like a jackass.

Re: 1.5vtec ref?? (96 EX)
actually...he has the silencer out of the exhaust. he wasnt driving like an *** so everyone could hear him. his shift points are fine with him. what i asked was if the car will legally ref with the vtec head on a 1.5 as long as he puts his stock header back on. so thanks for not answering ANY of my questions

You Can actually covert his ecu very easily so he doesn’t need to buy a new one there is a million write ups about it you just need to remove two resistors. I did it on my and the code went away. But if it is a p28 suposably they run rich on d15b's i don't know how that will that effect the emissions i live in pa and never had to go threw a test good luck

Well here are the answers. the 93 had a vtec motor, the D15b7. The ref is going to look at the stamp on the motor and match up the head to it. So if the block is an b7 you are fine. It might be fine on other motors too. Give it a try.
As for the codes, are they turning on the CEL light? if so you will fail.
As far is the header. Stock or CARB number your only choices in CA.

just wait to the ticket comes home and see how much it is. if its less than 250, just pay it off. if its more than 600, then worry bout it then. basically, if you go to the ref, everything has to be stock or carb legal for the motor and the ecu has to match with the engine. then you have to pass the visual and inspection
