00 si Governor question
2000 si b16a2, no engine mods. At what RPM does the governor kick in? I know that 8200 is the redline, but today in first gear I hit about 8300 maybe 8400 on accident. Can the governor be removed by a stupid previous owner? Also a side question , DOHC kicks in about 5600 RPM's but my car NEVER kicks in the first time I take the engine to that RPM after starting. Works great after. Just wondering if it is normal. Thanks

Re: 00 si Governor question (dthug)
Im no honda technician, my car gets significantly louder at 5600. It Thought that was the DOHC(im am incompetent when it comes to hondas), but if its the VTEC, The questions the same. Sorry.

i believe VTEC is supposed to engage at 5600 in a b16 but i could be wrong and the govornor would stop you from passing a certain speed so it you could shift beyond redline then your ecu was chipped to have the rev limiter taken off. i wouldn't pass the redline on a stock motor

Also I guess I am talking about a rev limiter, not a governor. According to searches it should kick off at 82, but mine didn't. Could the tach be off?

Yes. Your tach is probably off.
Also the reason why you're VTEC doesn't engage whenever you try it the first time is that you have to wait for the car to warm up before you try to engage VTEC.

- Yes the REV LIMITER SHOULD kick in at about 8200 RPMS.
- Your OEM tach is probably slightly off.
- VTEC is what is happening at 5600 RPM'S.
- The reason it doesn't "kick" in the first time after starting is because VTEC is temperature dependant as well as oil pressure dependant. Sooooo therefore when you first start your engine....it needs to warm up before VTEC will engage. Oh and of course you need enough oil :D
- AND finally yes everything is normal
