Default 00 dash swap into a 96 questions

i have read up on it and i dont want to mess with changing the dash harness and the electronic modules and such for the climate control and blower etc. i have light grey interior and i found a car with dark grey interior cheap so i was wandering if the climate control holes are the same in 00 and 97 cause i want to put the dark grey in my car. they look like the same to me but i wanted to see if someone knew for sure

Where the climate controls sit and mount in a 96-98 civic are significantly different from the 99-00. There is metal support that is tac welded in on the 96-98 that is not there on the 99-00. The location of the air vents are different. The hole is the same size but the structure that holds the climate control and the radio is different. I swapped the outer dash skin from my 98 onto the structure from a 99 dash when I changed to the 99-00 style. You could do the same thing just in reverse.

The best way to keep your climate control mounted securely would be to take the skin off of the dash on the 00 and transfer it to your 96. So unscrew where the dash attaches to the metal structure on the 00 remove and swap it to the metal structure form your 96. Move the Just keep the middle vents from your 96 when you do it.

Default FV-QR

The climate control bezel, climate control itself, radio and all is removable.

Just remove it and the entire dash.

Then put your new dash on. A dash skin shape is the same for all '96-'00.

Once the dash is back in install the radio, climate control and bezel again.

Sorry, missed this when I just posted.

You can put the climate control in a '96-'98, but you'll have to replace the wiring harness, parts of the heater IIRC. There is a big thread called the "Mother of all how-tos" on here. It covers the climate control swap.

It's a lot of work.

The '96-'98 climate control is manual. The '99-'00 one is power. It's not as easy as extending wires.

no i dont think u understood what i was trying to say i just want the bezzel of the 99--00 because i want to put a double din so i asked will it just clip in as a 96-98 bezel. and the climate control from the 96-98 you how its shaped like a radio im a relocate it to the bottom piece where theres a little space on top of the cup holders people usually put equalizers or relocate there radios there n put a block off plate on the top that says honda. thats wat i mean and just extend the harness to reach down there i mean the 96-98 harness for my heat and ac to still work

If you want that bezel, you need the whole thing.

If you have the bezel, you'll need to keep the ***** for the climate control unless you don't want ANY climate control (which means no a/c, no air, no heat). That or you'll have to relocate like you said, and then either keep the ***** for the '99-'00 climate control or block them off somehow.

I believe the hazard button and defrost are also different wiring, but I could be wrong.

It's a lot of work to just have a double DIN. I'm sure there's another way you could do it.

Why do you want that double DIN so badly anyway?
