Hey I noticed you said to get some LS rods. Do you mean out of the B series? I guess that would mean that they are the same length and have the same wrist pin sizes and all. Sorry if this has been covered in an earlier post it's just that 10 pages is alot to go through.

They need to be slightly modified to fit. The neck at the wrist pin is too large.

IIRC, the con-rod end is also 2mm too wide. You have to get a custom bushing to get it to fit a stock d-series piston.

do a search on http://www.dseries.org and you can get all of the details on what needs to be done to fit the ls rods. Unless you get the rods for free, it may be less hassle to just spend the extra money and get some eagle rods. I have also *read/heard* that RS machines will rework LS rods for you.

OK a basic question, if I put a y8 head gasget on a 90 16valve d-series motor wouldn't that bring my compression up to about 10:2:1 ??? The y8 head gasget that I would want to use is from a 1993 y8 or a 1997 y8? Thanks for the info this thread is absolutly wonderful!!!

Y8 only existed from 96-00. Z6 was the previous D-series VTEC motor from 92-95.

y8 used a thin metal head gasket (think that z6 has the same gasket), while other d-series used some sort of thicker composite gasket. So yes, the y8 gasket should bump up your compression, but I do not know by how much.

got another question for ya. What is the piston to valve clearence for when the pistion is at top dead center. Can anyone answer the question. The reason that I need to know is that I need to know how much clearence I have to play with so I don't do the piston valve kiss when I start changing things out to make real power. Oh yea what are the specs for a 90 16valve 1.5 cam? I know that they aren't a real big cam but I need to know the specs so I know what I can get away with.

quick question - making a mini-me with a d15b7 and z6 head, what head studs do I use? will the z6's work? or will the d15b7's work?

also any problem using a zex 53900 on this set-up? (clearance issues/timing issues)

Got a question for your guys..
I have a 00 ex w/ a D16Y8 motor..
I was given a 98 D16Y5 (HX) shortblock... I looked in my helms and see no difference in the blocks execpt the Y5 had Vtec-E and lower compression
I will be using a Y8 head on the motor..

Anyone know of any other differences between the Y5 and Y8 blocks?

Im not 100 percent correct I dont think... but you need a VTEC Dizzy to get a VTEC motor to work right?

Y5 block has a slightly lower compression piston.

Wow this post is ******* long. I appreciate everyone that has put valuable information into this post. Spade to ya, for the long, and very informative post. I'm looking for a vx or cx hatch i'll even take a dx, but don't want the si because of weight. If i get a vx or cx, im gonna swap it with another potential sohc motor. The reason being because cheap. I'm looking to play around with the SOHC and get me into the 13's. While im playing with the SOHC save money for a b18c1 Hey I've always wanted that motor. I still need to research more on the SOHC topic. But if it takes me the same amount or more to get into the 13's with an SOHC, or close to the price of a b18c1 swapped, i'm going to ditch the SOHC. Plus SOHC im only doing all motor. Well we'll see how money goes. I'm only 17 gimme a break.

Again great job. It's late and i just read the full first page, and really skimmed, not even, through the rest. This is why i love Honda-Tech. Great job to all of you guru's

Ok I have a question.
I am putting a D16Y8 head on my D16Z6 block. I have heard mixed emotions on which headbolts to use. Y8 or Z6?
And I am guessing the Y8 headgasket right?
BTW this is a very good thread.
