If anyone could help me out it would be much appreciated. I have a 99 Civic LX that I bought a keyless remote for when I got the car programmed it and everything worked great. A couple months back the locking started to become spotty and only work every once in a while. It eventually stopped working all together but unlocking always works fine. I just got used to it and asked for a new remote for Christmas and now I have a brand new remote and my locking still doesnt work but unlocking works fine just like my other remote so it's obviously not the remote.

I have read a few things about valet mode but I'm not sure my model even does that.

Any ideas? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Do the doors unlock and lock fine using the driver's inside door switch and the key lock? In other words, is the problem specific to the keyless system?

Sorry I thought I covered everything. It's a factory system it was optional on the LX so I bought a keypad and it worked fine for months. And Ron, the switch inside does work perfectly fine for unlocking and locking the doors so it is keyless specific.

Based on the circuit diagram for the keyless system, I think that your keyless control unit behind the driver's kick panel may be bad.

Would it be any help to tell you about when the locking stopped working my interior light went crazy. If I have it on the middle setting (on when the doors open) it wont turn on when the door is opened and then when the car is started it will turn on and not turn off until I flick it back to the completely off setting.

And, is the control unit something easily fixed? Can I just go get any old unit from a junkyard and slap it on there or is it specific to my car?

The ceiling/dome light is controlled by the keyless control unit, so it's also consistent with a bad control unit. Yeah, I'd try to find a replacement at a junk yard. You'll only find it on 99-00 Civic LX, EX or Si models.

Is it a easy switch once I do find a unit or is it much more complicated? I haven't been behind that panel in a while.
