Default $5k on a new swap.. what to do?

I searched.. nothing concerning the price limit including everything I'd want..

I plan to spend.. $5k total. Probably nothing more after that except for regular maintenence and I don't want to go F/I. I'm in CA, so I also need to follow all the CARB stuff.. and since I'll most likely be getting a JDM motor, I'd need to replace the intake manifold, exhaust manifold, and whatever else to get the BAR sticker.

I was looking at a B16, get a Skunk2 IM, Skunk2 Stage1 Camshafts or CTR Camshafts, Skunk2 Camgears, V-AFC or Hondata unit, DC 4-2-1 (Would love to get the DC JDM 4-1, but it's not CARB'd; yet), AEM CAI, ITR TB, and probably an World Sport Exhaust.

I know the general consensus on this board is to go with a B18C1.. keeping in mind that I'm only willing to spend at most $5k, would I be able to attain more power out of a B18C1 with a thousand less to spend on mods than the B16?

I don't think I could get a properly done LS/VTEC or CR/VTEC setup for $5k.. not sure if I can do it legally in CA either..

Also, I'll be getting the motor from hmotorsonline most likely.. and I'll be spending additional money for tuning.. so I don't need to factor in tuning to the cost.

Oh yea, I wanna do some autox stuff, maybe some track time now and then.. I'm not into drag racing or street racing.

Any ideas/comments/suggestions?

get a gsr engine, clutch, do some routine maint.
that would be almost 4000
exaust= 400+
slip a ctr intake cam for like 250
ecu work?
you have your car aligned correctly? camber?

yes b16's are cheap, but do you really want to spend 2500 for another cam?

i just read the part where you want to use hondata. that is pretty expensive shiat....if 5,000 is your ultimate limit on the engine, b16 might be it for you

Why not just get a type R from a USDM? Trust me the $ you spend on all of the extras for the B16 will get you no where near the type r plus you get honda realibility B18c5 would run a little more but it would def be worth it. Trust me I spent $4500 on B16, Jun valvetrain, CTR Cams, PnP, CTR pistons, and other stuff. Wished I would have gotten a B18c5 and be done

C1 with I/H/E should be less than $5K and will have more potential than the b16.

http://www.importbuilders.com

Description: CRV/VTEC "Budget" Longblock
This is just the block, and a B16A head only. There is no distributor, no intake, no header, no wire harness, no throttle body. This is a longblock. And it's built. All new! CRV block, new IB Spec Wiseco Pistons, new Probe Ultralite IB Spec Rods, new bearings, new oil pump (VTEC), new VTEC water pump, new timing belt, new LS/VTEC oil line, new head gasket, new IB Spec valvetrain, with Ti retainers, new valve seals, 3-angle valve job, included shipping. This is a nice replacement package for a blown up motor. Or if you have a B16A motor. This is the perfect motor for those of you that have old VTEC motors, or old LS motors, or any B series motor in general.

Estimates: 190 WHP (with like Type-R cams in it, it will support any cam)

Price: $4600 shipped.

thats what i would go with and put the rest into the tranny.

Default Re: $5k on a new swap.. what to do? (Quad-Damge)

Description: Type-R "Killer" Hydro. "OEM" Honda Budget Motor.
Tranny included. No core required.

This is a HIGH PERFORMANCE total rebuild package for those of you that are sick of getting used motors that don't last. This package includes Import Builders completely revamping the motor. LS/VTEC of course. Because that's the best motor in the world for the money... Type-R pistons, new bearings, new seals, new oil pump, new water pump, new timing belt, new head gasket, new valvetrain, 3-angle valve job, new Type-R cams, new clutch, Type-R intake manifold, chipped ECU, and FPR.

**no mounts, no linkage, no axles.
Priced to compete with Type-R swaps, which it destroys. No reason to buy a Type-R motor when you can buy this. Which is exactly why we have this.

Options:
JG Edelbrock, IB modified Header, add $525.
Individual Throttle Bodies: add $1200.
Tuning options: Have us install, break in the motor and tune it, here!! Then we ship, you install, and that's it. Go race! $1100. (Comes with Hondata Stage 2)
Estimates: 170-180 WHP/125 TQ. (We have seen as high as 190, same build)

Price: $5900 shipped.
Also not a bad deal

they got some nice engines here, and they come with 0 Miles on them.

Hmm.. I haven't really looked into the B18C5 that much.. I guess if I could the whole swap for $5k, that'd be cool. I'd still have to replace parts though to get a BAR sticker.. If I can find a USDM C5 for under $5k.. I'd probably do that then.

Oh, and whoever asked about suspension mods and stuff.. that has already been covered. H&R Cupkits, front SI swaybar, Ingalls camber kits, S/T rear sway/tiebar..

I'm inclined to agree. I don't wanna mess with any LS/VTEC or CRV/VTEC swaps. I'm looking seriously at the B18C5 right now, if I can find a USDM one when I need it.. Don't have the money right now, but will by the end of summer.. just wanted to do some planning and stuff.

Thanks for the help.
