Default "close" spring rates (searched)

Im trying to find info on spring rates, and if it is a disadvantage to have f/r spring rates that are too close. I was looking to get something around 400f/450r on a set of OTS kyb agx shocks. i was wondering if those rates are too close, of even too much for the shocks. any info would help.

Depending on what kind of car you have I think those rates look great. Personally I would go 400/450. Well thats if your autoxing or track racing. With the agx's you should be fine.

its going to be on a 94 civic 4 door... and its mostly going to be daily driven, with some track days here and there...

Cool. Some folks might claim that the spring rate is to high for the agx but imo you will be fine.

The reason you may want to think about the 400/450 rate is the back end will be a little looser and will come around better...at least from an autox perspective. Any track guys reading this could maybe give some more insight.

since its mostly going to be daily driven, im most likely going to just go with 400/350.

Those rates are too high for street. Hope you slow down for potholes and wear one of those kidney supports. As for track 400/450 on the rear is ridiculously high. Remember that the spring rates are proportionate to the weight distribution of the car. You want the spring rates to make the car neutral, then you tune the struts for the dynamic parts of the turn (stable understeer on entry, neutral apex, and a little loose on exit). With those rates you're just going to be loose loose and not have any confidence coming into the turn. You'll have a hard time aiming for the line at the apex. Suck for the street too.

Hmmm. I consider my ride quality sporty at worst. I put lots of hwy miles on it and generally use it as a daily driver...never anykind of problems.

Oh its also the car I took first in my class and overall for the year in my region in autocross.

However I will say this, spring rates have to be lived with. What I mean is I started with pretty weak spring rates and slowly worked up to this rate. As for driveability my wife can drive it all over town with never a problem and it rips at autox events.

im runnin 350/450 rates and i kinda wish i went a bit stiffer up front. its a bit mushy when pushed. but then again, i dont have a front swaybar.

Front sway bar or strut bar? Personally I think once you get the proper sway bars and what not theres no need for a front upper strut bar.

Front swaybar. and i agree with ur theory, but an engine bay just looks so . . . naked without a strutbar.
