Yeah, right. There's this awesome thing called a contract. You sign one when you sign up for insurance. You try playing that stupid "but I have receipts" game with them without it being specifically stated in your contract (which is what Villian is talking about), you're going to end up uninsured with a lawsuit ripping your bank account a new ******* after your insurance company refuses to cover you.

Exactly. Most of the major insurance companies specifically say on their standard policies that aftermarket parts and modifications are expressly NOT covered in your policy. You could have all the receipts in the world, and it won't do any good unless you specifically setup to include the value of those items in your policy, which I can tell you first hand will raise your premiums above what most are willing to pay for a 15-20 year old Honda. Sometimes the better companies will give you a small window that they will cover
With receipts, usually only up to like $500 or less though and this is usually to cover things like if you put brand new tires on your car the day you wreck it or a aftermarket headunit was stolen etc, but there is no way to "convince" the insurance companies to pay you for everything that is in your build without having a policy that specifically includes that value. It's the same principal as people who inside their classic muscle cars that are worth boat loads of money.

There or here, either would work, but collision repair has been done so many times, you can find a how-to by searching extremely easily.

What you can do is tell the bodyshop doing the work that you want the car. How this normally works is they do an estimate that comes out to less than the total loss value of the vehicle (normally an insurance company will total a vehicle when repairing it costs more than 80% of it's value, but it varies a bit depending on the insurance company) and then you pay the difference between that estimate (which the insurance pays for) and the total cost of the repair. This way you retain your clean title.

The parts you need aren't worth much, the labor isn't even worth all that much unless there's a lot of hidden damage, but the paint materials are worth a lot.

Got a few leaks amongst other potential issues. I bought the car recently and it sat for a long time. I'm sure it could use a valve adjustment etc. The coolant was boiling last night after a long time in traffic as well. Was wondering if I should have it rebuilt or just swap something else into it. Shop said they'd machine the crank, head and block. New gasket and seals, timing belt, water pump and rings/bearings for $650. Seems like a good price, but not sure what it'd cost me to throw something else in there, be it a b20 etc. I'm in Socal if that makes a difference.

You'll have to do your own research and price check on this one here. B20s in my area are 500-600 from one of them there JDM motor places. Then you'll need to price axles, mounts, ECU, transmission and little things here and there.

If you want an actual response from the H-T community you can use. Inform us of the year, trim and transmission type in there now. And also any other research you may of already done.

i have a 2000 civic hatch its my first car! although ideally i want a b18 in there i wanna start off by building a d series with vtec just so i can get familiarized and experiment with honda's. Do you guys think its a good way to begin?

I was going to buy them from Majestic Honda. Does anyone have any other recommendations?

You can probably save a lot of money by buying straight line and fittings, renting a pipe flaring tool and pipe bender, and making them yourself. That being said, Majestic has NEVER been the best price for things, they just have the most convenient website. If you want to buy pre-bent, get the part numbers from Majestic, toss them in Google, and find the website that has the best deal for you.

Sometimes you'll get really lucky and find a used set in good shape, that's how I got mine for my sedan. Paid $30 for a complete rust free set of lines off a Civic someone was parting out. With the cost of shipping something as long as lines I'd check with your local dealer and see if they can price match against Majestic, or at the very least cut you a deal.

This does not work well. I have made them before for other vehicles and they never turn out right. The bends just never end up being right and somehow the lines always end up too long. The fuel feed line is especially hard to work with and I can almost guarantee you you'll kink it more than once trying to bend it, even with a proper bender.
