Icon2 Strut Noise

Just bought a 2002 Honda Civic and the front left strut pops when I hit big bumps. The person I bought it from just had the front struts replaced, they look new. The shop that they took it to put cork in between the top of the strut and the car. Is this right or what?

Not a cork from a wine bottle but from a valve cover gasket. I've never seen anyone do this before. Most cars are just metal to metal. Do Honda's have a gasket for the struts?

I got the invoice from the seller and it says both front struts were replaced along with the upper strut mount plates.

Strut mount, this has a rubber bottom where the top of the spring meets and the top is metal, its the 3 bolts that stick out from the strut tower.

If that's been replaced you might want to look into loose/broken end links. Jack up the car and jiggle thing, make sure the spring is properly seated into the shock and doesnt rotate or isnt loose. Lastly, if the work is under warranty just go back and have them take a look.

What ended up being the problem with this? Was the coil spring not seated properly? Perhaps they forgot to install the bearing?

I'm not sure still makes the noise and the struts were put on about five months ago come to find out so there is no warranty. When I was pulling off the tire one of the wheel studs snapped off luckily that was from the tire guys so they fixed that for free and had to put a wheel bearing in. It ended up costing them $300. I'm just saying screw it with the noise and I'm looking at coilovers any good tips for Honda's? I had d2's on my Mazda 6 and the spring rate was to soft for the rear.
