Not to mention the fact that the D17's gear ratios are much narrower than the RSX's. Which sucks, in my opinion, for an economy vehicle. I've got the tach. at 3500 for 75mph. </TD></TR></TABLE>

I've heard that before. What's the difference in final ratio between the two?

Re:
EM2's are no slower than the Civics they replaced.
Heck, my 4 door Civic 5-speed is a much faster car than my 97 Dx hatch was...both being bone stock.
The 4 door 02+ is faster than the 96 + 4 door and the 92 - 95 4door. Same goes for the coupe.
Too bad the D17 just doesn't take that well to mods. I have to think some of that is ECU related.

i dont understand how u can take a d16 non vtec and make that motor have 220 hp fairly easy. but our motors u cant? i really think if i got cams, conecting rods, lifters ,pistons, valve springs, bigger injectors and a nice fuel pump and emanage. my car will be putting out 200 hp

if you think that, then you need to re-think yourself. btw, u only have one cam.

There's no way that amount of work will bring 80hp to our cars. 220hp D16's are usually boosted, as well.

Re: (cgo_62)
So not to steal the thread, but I didn't buy my civic to beat any cars off the line or race but it's a fun car to drive (HFP Suspension) and pretty good on gas. Anyhow how expensive do you think it would be to put an HX Final drive into an EX 5-speed. I bet it would save quite a bit of gas and who cares about having to shift to 4th to get moving more on the highway right? Just a curiosity quesiton. And as gas got up to 3 bucks a gallon and is expected to go even higher, I've noticed that the EX isn't all that great on gas on the highway especially if your going over 65 (as most NJ drivers do) that little engine is buzzin at that speed.

if you dont mind me asking, how much power are you pushing? unless your running over 200+, i dont think youd be able to take a RSX-S with kpro and a handful of boltons with equal or same drivers.

210whp 190tq Gutted Interior. I beat a rsx-s with Kpro I/E/H/ by 3 cars

not only that the D17 is a single cam... but it has potential just as the D16's did.. .they just have been out for much longer. I mean... with boost the sky is the limit... people are quick to say K-swap is the way to go.. but why spent 9-10k on a swap that'll just get you THAT much faster when you could spend the same amount on a d17 and get you even FASTER. but... preferances differ from person to person... oh well.

10k is way more than most should spend on a K-swap.

i'll take the k swap and have a naturally aspirated, stock internal motor with a few bolt ons and make 220 whp before i boost a d17 anyday.
also, no one seems to ever mention how weak the d17 transmission feels in comparison to a k20a or a2 transmission. it's a world of difference.

The tranny felt the same on my car. In fact, the clutch felt heavier on my D17 than my K20A2. But other than that, I would agree with you. I would rather have a motor that has a world more potential than a car that is pretty much maxed out, without dumping big $$$, to get the same results.
A K20A2 can be swapped in for less than $5000 if you know where to shop, and you do the work yourself
