Intermittent Start Problem

Intermittent Start Problem
Hello All,
I have a 2005 Civic that has an unusual start problem. Randomly, the car will not start. When the key is placed in the ignition and turned there is a clicking from the dash and the LCD odometer display flashes on and off. This continues after the key is removed.
I disconnect the battery and wait thirty seconds and the car starts immediately. (Of course, now I have to reset the radio code and clock and station presets.)
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Intermittent Start Problem
The battery is 1 year old. The connections to the battery are clean, tight and well maintained. This problem started on the 8th of October. The car starts normally most of the time, but every once in awhile this occurs. Also, this has happened after the car was running and turned off for twenty minutes, and when the car was left over night and cold. The car won't start until the battery has been disconnected and we wait long enough for the radio security code to reset.

Re: Intermittent Start Problem
I agree with NDNV that this is a good first step. I have also heard that a good place to start (after the obvious stuff NDNV said), is with aftermarket electronic accessories. Good luck! Electrical can be a tough one..I am having some issues myself

Re: Intermittent Start Problem
Hi. I was wondering if OP resolved the issue? I have the same problem. NO crank, when key is in position number3, there is noise from the dash but no start.
I did little bit of research and found that some people had to replace ignition switch. So I bought new one, installed it but NEVER PROGRAMED IT and my car started just fine without doing so. I thought that Immobilizer is not going to let it start but it did. Anyway, next morning it did it again-no crank. It seems like ignition is not the problem here. My civic is 2004.
What else can I look into? Starter relay maybe?
