Default how do I check an engine for stability

Would it be a bad idea to buy a k20a2 from a junkyard that has been totaled? I just got an email from the pull-a-part down here said they got a totaled rsx and the thing looked like it did about 20 cartwheels. He only wanted 2k for the engine, bout 60k miles on it.

Depends.... was it hit in the front?

If it was ( and I can assure, from what you tell me, that it was)... I would PERSONALLY INSPECT the engine for physical damage before I paid ANYTHING.

get a leakdown and compression test done.

That will give u results of how the internals are doing.

check around the oil pan if there is any big dents in it and oil pickup might be fucked. But if there is no external damage and it compression / leakdown tests ok, then I would go for it. Is it 2000 for the whole swap(or what's left of the swap) or just the engine?

If everything checks out that sounds like a great buy. Probly be able to do a nice swap for about 4K.

Make sure the engine wasn't running long while being flipped. That would score the pistons pretty badly.
