Engine bearing damage, anyone have this? (See video)
2002 civic lx coupe. Not vtec.
My mechanic says the bearing and crankshaft are shot and that the engine needs a rebuild. He says it's not economical to fix. The car ran with low oil for too long. A few months ago the spark plug blew into the engine on the highway and the mechanic never figured out why, but he got the car running again and it was good. A few thousand miles later I figured the car was fine, with a quiet tick normal for the civics, and had the mechanic change the timing belt and water pump. After this it started ticking loudly.
Can anyone tell me what it cost them to rebuild or replace their engines with this type of problem.

If I paid someone to work on my car and it came back sounding like that - they'd have to fix it, free of charge, or I'd file a lawsuit against them.

At the first oil change after the spark plug was fixed, the oil level was almost empty. I didn't check the oil level in between because in seven years it never burned oil. I think the damage was done during this time. I drove home 1,000 miles for the holidays with low oil.
The tick got louder a week after the timing belt installed. I don't think the mechanic did anything to further damage it.
I don't know if it's better to fix and sell it, or just junk it.
