throw the d17 crank in d16 block, with d16 head and u got a 1.7L d16 though, that will work.

Are you sure? I think the journals have different spacing. I think you'd have problems trying to sneak the D17 crank in between the narrower journals, but I could be wrong.

I'd like to see it, to be honest. I have a friend still rolling his mini-me D16z6 and would love a boost in displacement.

He's just going to use mine, when I do the K-series swap. He's going to pay me for the whole engine, but knowing that the crankshaft will be useable already, is a plus. He's going for the most frankenstein D-series ever. He's got parts from 3 different types already.

What can this swap do for performance? Would it give the motor any more potential?

x2, the only things i could think of, that would make an advantage would be more parts are out there for the z6 and y8's compared to our d17's

Well, you'd need to do something about the ECU, since there's no distributor on a D17. This would be an upgrade for previous gen. Civics, since it's a boost in displacement. But, it'd be a massive downgrade for the 7th gen. Civic, since it'd be such a hassle to get it running properly (not to mention the legality of the older engine parts on a newer chassis).

Last I checked you needed to re-machine the snout of the crank in order to get this to work (you need the d16 crank gear) the main benefit is that the d16 head flows way better than the d17 head. the down side to this is your doing away with the coil pack system which IMO not worth it since you have so much control over it if you go k-pro.

Oh and there are a # d16 parts that are interchangeable with the d17
Clutch, flywheel, the whole valve train (ie. valves, springs, retainers), rod bolts, head studs, timing belt tensioner, theres a bunch more.

Our motor is like Canada it's the same but different
