Civic Special Edition 20pin Audio Harness--How is it different?
Hey folks,
Question for all you '04/05 Civic Special Edition owners out there:
As far as I can tell, the 20pin male factory audio connector on these coupe/sedans look the same as any other 01-05 Civic(light blue). However, I've run across some information that it's different for the Special Edition, which ran the nice minty double din 6cd MP3 unit.
This one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...d=1,1
Love that stereo setup
All I do know for sure is that all deck plugs for 01-05 are 20pin
I called a dealer and they said thier online manual didn't show any special notes for the pinout on the SE Civic as opposed to it's EX/LX/DX brothers.
But...they didn't give me much of thier time. Diggin on Ebay, I noticed those cheap aftermarket conversion harnessess state in the listing that they will work for all 01-05 civic EXCEPT the Special Edition...
So what is the point of difference?
I had a buddy at dealer fax me a copy of the audio harness pinout for the standard 2005 2dr/4dr Civic: I noticed 4 or 5 of the pins are not being used on this male/female connection--is there extra stuff on the SE that is not wired up on the lower models?
It can't be tweeters, can it? I swear, some of the regular EX models came with those as well...
I only found one thread that touched on my question:
Special Edition package for EX coupe and sedan features upgraded audio system with MP3 capable in-dash 6-disc CD changer and an auxiliary jack for use of portable music devices and satellite radio receivers.
But that acc. plug for Ipod or XMradio is seperate from the 20pin connection, right?
This is bugging me...
Thanks in advance.

There is no difference or the difference doesn't matter. That's why you can just plug in the 6 Disc CD changer into an non special-edition civic and it'll work perfectly. And the acc plug is on the front totally separate from the 20 pin connection.
