Re: smoothing the engine bay (G-FX)
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by G-FX »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">Im currently looking at shaving the engine bay.. Ive been through all 400+ pages and dont think i have a 100% answer on what technique to use when grinding holes and using filler.
SO there has been a few techniques
1) Stitch welding or seam welding : weld a joint between the two panels every 1-2 inches
With stitch welding, can you just grind back the stitches and use filler between the two panels - because the stitch is stonger the filler shouldnt crack in this situation?
2) weld holes, grind and use seam sealer to smooth out making sure no filler gets on the seam sealer
3) when you grind to the metal you should use Metal Glaze to restore OEM protectants
4) just weld holes and use blue icing to fill, but use thin
So with those, which is best? I get mixed answers - some say you should never apply filler onto of paint, and if thats the case I then use Metal Glaze. Others were just sand the paint with 80grit and you'll be fine
Any help is appreciated.</TD></TR></TABLE>
didnt get any answers, thought if I find some pics it will give you more of an idea:

I'm no welder but I thought what you have labeled as "Seam" welding is actually stitch welding?
And what you have labeled as "stitch" welding is actually spot welding.
I'm sure someone with more knowledge than me can shed more light...

spot welds are pretty much how they sound. They are spots. Dots of metal that just hold peices together. Usually done to put pipes or pieces of metal together so they stay together while you weld them. Seam/Stitch is those 1 inch long beads you see pictures of. Although some people do different spot welds differently so thats just my take on it.

Re: (g2_teg_)
what are most guys using to hide the windshield washer fluid tank? i still want to functional. Also is there a way to hide the brake lines on the firewall without removing the dash and relocating them there?
