Oh ****, What Just Happenned To My Paint???
As you may have know I painted my car last week with duplicolor gunmetal metallic spray paint. Turned out flawless and I was really happy. My friend seen the job and was in love but didnt think I could do such a good job on his car so he went and bought some Dupont gunmetal paint.
So I mix it 1:1 with the basemaker and I load it into the gun an away I spray. First things I notice are that the gun is shooting weird, was in streaks of like 3 inches high, figured the would be more spread, anyways after almost completing one side, I look back at the finished work
WHAT THE ****!!! I yelled
The paint looked like **** in like 6 places, it looked like a turtle shell or like an orange skin and came up off the surface, I had no idea what cause it because the surface was clean and sanded to 400 grit.
So I just turned off the compressor and stopped, went inside buddies house and made this thread. Now his compressor is pretty old and would only let me do either 40psi or 100psi, is 40psi not enough and it isnt sticking?
WHATS GOING ON?
EDIT: Found a pic on google, mine isnt this large but thats what it looks like

That happened to a grill I was painting. I think what happened was I didnt clean the surface good enough. But lucky for me, it was just primer, so I worked around it.

Howd you work around it
Im almost positive that I cleaned the area just fine, I went over it with a normal cloth then a tack cloth then shot the paint, wrong?

That's actually called "crowsfeet"...not "fisheye"!
Toubleshooting guide here:
This applies to other brands of paint as well.....

The guide also has pictures for reference. Go through different discriptions that matches your paint defect because some defects look the same but are caused by different reasons.

hmmmm, the last one in that guide kinda looks like it, one of the reasons is to low air pressure while spraying, Im going at 40-43 psi, is that good enough?

So I can just sand this **** gone and paint over it?
What could be under the paint? First the car was spray painted and cleared so I sanded all the clear off, reprimerred and started spraying
Cause I prob have about 1 1/2 quarts left so Im gonna have to be stinchy lol

same thing happened to me... i had to sand it down and spray it with a few coats, but you have to make sure that each coat is very light. My $0.02
