cleaning stock black valve cover

What is the best way to go about cleaning the stock black valve cover? (I have a B16)

I've heard somewhere that vaseline on the valve cover will make it look brand new...

Immerse the valve cover in a bath of 50% simple green automotive concentrate and 50% water. Let it soak for a while then spray it off with the hose (mist works well). After you let it dry, touch up the rubbed-off spots with black paint. After that dries, take a dremmel or some high grit sandpaper to the letters to make them look new.

Bam. Done.
