Hi guys, so here's the deal.. I own a honda accord 1999 and absolutely love it... My sister now wants one.. so we are on the hunt for a used model.

This is what we have found so far... I know that two women going in to buy a used car is going to be very difficult.. so Im hoping this forum can arm me with info and what to say..

Please help us out... Im not sure what to negotiate down to.. Also, we are paying cash... not sure how to play that in...

Carfax it!! thats is a great place to start out before you buy any used car.. is it from a dealership or from someone from craigslist?.. if it is from a dealership asked them to show you the carfax.. they have too. 13995 isn't too bad in my option if its a clean title..

2006-2010 = roughly 4 year...
37,827/4 =9,457 miles a year.. that lower then average..

But there is also so many other things to look into as well. the physical condition it is in?
is there rust, damage?.. pop the hood and check the front frame and make sure that it isn't got any cracked or any weird shift in the frame. driver it and listen to see if you hear anything out of the ordinary.. look around in the interior make sure all the lights light up, all the windows roll down, all the power stuff works, air, ac, radio, etc.. pop the hood and look around see if you see any cracked hoses, oil leaks, rusted pipes?.. etc.. but it doesn't seem to bad.. our dealership just sold a 06 EXL for i believe 17995..something like that and there was a 06 v6 that went for about 19995...

Leased cars are often abused because the owner feels no sense of attachment to the car.

Look carefully for mismatched paint or replaced body panels. Often accidents do not show up on carfax. Drive with the windows down and listen VERY carefully. Test both the acceleration and brakes thoroughly.

Pop the hood while the motor is running and have someone give it gas and listen for any abnormal sounds. Watch for excess vibration (may indicate bad motor mounts). Remove the oil fill cap and check for blowby.

If anyone is serious about selling a car they would either let you take or meet you at a Reputable car repair business( read Honda dealership). Have it checked out. You girls pay the check car over fee. Usually 1/2 to 1 hour labor 75-110 dollars and get the opinion of someone who has seen thousands of cars just like the one you are interested in. If you think about the cost vs the piece of mind it is nothing compared to the loss of buying a junk ride. While it is true that lease vehicles are often neglected the low mileage doesn't indicate that. I would ask whatever inspection facilty about the condition of the body also. Does it appear to have any major accident damage that has been repaired and their opinion on the quality of repair if any. Be careful when purchasing a used car from an individual or smaller car lot. They have the least reputation to uphold and IMO generally of course are more likely to sell junk. Sometimes knowingly and sometimes not. Either way over 10g on a single purchase should be taken very seriously and carefullly especially with a cash payment on your part.

So just an update... we bought the 2006 Honda Accord EXL with 37k for 14300 out the door.. including new reg and taxes for CT.... I think we did great... the car is beautiful...

A LXP is alot different trim wise than a EXL. In my opinion they got a decent deal on it especially if it was from a dealer

take a look at all the gaps on the body panels. Make sure they are all consistant all around. A good indicator a car has been in an accident is if something doesnt line up right. Another good thing to do is pull off a door cover from the interior. A lot of times, when a car is flooded, this is overlooked when repairing everything. Dirt doesnt justs get in there...if its there, it probably came with water. Aside from carfax, which you have, instinct is really the best. if something doesnt feel right, you should be suspicious.
