Update
After restting the engine light (thanks for info) was able to get car inspected. Light eventually reappeared after a short road trip where the Torque Con verter never fully locked up.

The 741 code indictes a solenoid not fully engaged appears only after some time at high speed. Low speed shifts seem to be OK but the engine may be turning over at higher RPMS than before, can't tell. Does the solenoid, Torque Converter or the whole transmission need replacement at this tiime?.

I have been experiencing transmission problems, i.e. torque converter does not lock up and drops out with slight touch of the accelerator pedal among other things including hard shiifts at times. Poblems were noted following a cat converter replacement identified from an engine light indication.

The condition improved somwhat following transmission fluid replacement but did not go away. In the interim the engine light came on again and a trip to the dealer produced computer trouble codes of PO 741 and PO 700. What do these codes mean?

I need an inspection as well but was told that the inspection cannot proceed with the engine light on. Is there some way to get the light off long enough to get the inpection?? How do I turn it off?

Is the only way to get the car inspected is by replacing the transmission????

P0700 is just a general automatic transmission code, it doesn't mean anything by itself, P0741 is for the torque converter. What it ultimately means is the transmission is bad.

No, you can reset the ECU/PCM but even if the light stayed out long enough to get it to the inspection station when they plug it in to the scan tool the readiness monitors wont be set, and by the time they do the light will be back on again.

Yes, it's going to have to be done either way anyway, you don't normally get much time out of a slipping transmission. I'd recommend a rebuilt unit in this case, these particular transmissions were notorious for premature failure so I wouldn't take a chance on a junkyard unit.
