Steering Shake
All, first post -
I have an '03 Accord LX 2.4l - 129k - replaced the tires Oct '11 and drove from CA to GA without incident (avg 33mpg too).
Around Feb '12, I rotated the tires. Since then, when I get up to 55-68 MPH the steering wheel has definite shake (left and right). It's possible the wheel shake is there while driving slower, but slower is less pronounced and therefore, it's extremely noticeable when approaching 60mph.
And, if I'm not stretching the memory, the steering shake is decent when under heavy braking too.
Are my brake rotors warped? - never replaced pads or rotors (inspections are always good)
or
Is the too much play in the wheel lugs? Is it possible to leave a lug loose enough to cause shake?
Thanks.

Re: Steering Shake
Wheel balancing is the problem. Sometimes wheels/tires get into the grove where they are. Once you rotate them, they sort of become out of balance. Or one of the balancing weights fell off.

Re: Steering Shake
Never overlook the simple and obvious! Just a few days ago my car suddenly had a very harsh and loud vibration while driving. It got so loud that I pulled the car over and to my dismay, the lug nuts were almost completely off of the wheel! I thought they were the axles,(my car does have an axle problem) and when I saw the lug nuts, I was so relieved and furious at the same time lol
My suggestion to you is to check your lug nuts first. If those were not the problem, remove the front wheels, look to see if something does not look right, and start wiggling everything (tie rods, steering knuckle, brake caliper, rotor ... basically everything just to see if there is anything loose. If everything checks out okay, then do your own tire rotation again to see if it is a wheel issue like the previous guy said. If that does not work, then I will say that you need to replace your wheel bearings, but I'm just guessing right now.
There's no way of really telling you what the problem is without actually seeing/hearing/feeling what you do. Give it a try, it should not take you more than 30 minutes of your day. You might even save yourself some time and money by not taking it to a mechanic
