dealer wants 1,100 to fix my vtc 08 accord?
So I have a 08 accord 4 cylinder auto trans 75,000 miles
So its kinda a long story but I just bought this car 2 weeks ago with out a warranty. Started it cold the next morning after I bought it and when it starts it makes this horrible sound for 3 seconds sounds like it staring for oil. Its does it every time I start the car cold
I did some research and it sounds like classic vtc problem. trouble is I have no idea if it has to be fixed? So I figure it probably should. I drooped it off at a Honda dealer last night (so they could cold start it and here the sound)
any way they just called me. they said the vtc needs to be replaced and some how they broke the timing chain while diagnosing it.
are they tring to rip my off? is this normal for the chain to brake? is this a normal price?

They broke the timing chain? If they did, I don't see how that (and the accompanying checking of valves etc) is on you...

I talked to them again. Sounds like they broke master link, and some how that means the chain need to be replaced.
I told them I did not have that kind of money sitting around (witch I dont) and was going to have it towed home, and the guy seamed to change his tune and said he was going to call me back.

sounds like the vtc acctuator. there is a bulletin on that so they should of not charge you anything. And for the chain to brake sounds like somebody dosen't know what they are doing.

The car has been sitting in there shop since Friday (they were closed for the holiday.) Any way I just got a call from Honda this morning, and THERE GOING TO PAY FOR ALL OF IT. except I have to pay to 250 deductible. So ya thats great.
I guess if any one else has this problem you have to request to ask for assistance from Honda to pay for it. The guy I was talking to at the dealer seamed mad and did not want to send it in because he said it was a waist of time. Since it was so far out of warranty. I also had very good maintenance records from carfax that was all done at a honda dealer witch I think helped a lot. (although the honda dealer had no record of this I had to give them the carfax)
I don't remember if I said but it was diagnosed by the dealer as the vtc was bad and they broke the timing chain (they said because the vtc was bad the chain was not getting oil) so they wanted 1,100 plus a hour to diagnose it.
