How do I disable high cold start idle?
2004 accord coupe I4 with 69000 miles.
The car does what everyone tells me is normal. I start it and the rpms go to 1500 for 3.5-4 minutes. Then it goes down to 800rpms. If I put the car in gear before it "warms" my car will take off doing 16-18mph without me ever touching the gas. Once the car is warm to car will only go 4-5 mph without gas.
My question is not weather or not this is normal. I want to know how to get rid of it completely.
I unplugged the solenoid to the cold air valve and the cars rpms raced up and down. I also tried taking the valve off and putting a solid gasket over the coolant openings, the car wouldn't start.
I need to know the correct way to eliminate this annoying and dangerous feature.
Thank you
Chris

Re: How do I disable high cold start idle?
If there is no check engine light, I would say this is normal during the colder periods.
However, I have to ask. You seem to know alot about cars and your way around it, and yet asking such question. Sorry, I'm a bit confused.

I just want it gone and can't figure out how to do it. My VW revs at 800 rpm soon as I start it I can drive it.
