Buying a 2005 EX-L V6 6-Speed Manual
Hey everyone. In a few days, I plan on purchasing a 2005 EX-L V6 6-speed manual beauty with 70K miles. I've done my research and it seems like there are a lot of known issues with the automatic trannies in these cars; are there any common issues that plague manual trannies?
I haven't found much in terms of reported issues, I just want to cover all my bases.
Thanks again.

known 3rd gear issue. other than that make sure it shifts good at high rpm and i would change the fluid when you get it unless the previous owner can provide maintenance records.

Re: Buying a 2005 EX-L V6 6-Speed Manual
Our 80k 06 clutch has a pretty crunchy feel to it, sure it is the master cylinder. It does not affect operation, just distracting since about 30k. That and some judder, which started around 60k, for the first few starts of the day. We also needed our VSA modulator replaced as it was introducing air into the brake system as it was in the Odyssey, so make sure pedal is firm. Since day one the car has had a very aggressive initial brake bite so it was obvious something was wrong as the pedal developed a lot of travel. Outside of that it has been fairly solid.

The fluid was recently changed at Honda (according to the CarFax). Thank you for the tips.

I can tell by the wheels/tires the owner put on it that he changed a few things about it; I have yet to see if anything has been altered mechanically, so I plan on looking into the suspension.

having owned over 20 honda's. I can tell you the main problem with the automatic trans is people don't change the fluid enuf. You need to change fluid every 25K miles and ONLY use HONDA trans fluid. If you do that and your not a tard about coming to complete stop before you go from reverse to forward or vise versa you will never have a trans problem with the automatic unless you have pilot or odyseey. The converters are crap and go bad all the time.

Good to hear that you're liking it. I'm a former 05 NHB 6-6 owner I would recommend going to Honda to get the MTF changed. Mine had the 3rd gear pop out, after getting the then-new MTF formulation, it went away.

About $75 if you're lazy like me and have them do it. But it is only a few bucks a quart from the parts dept.

That's not too bad, though - I was thinking it'd be a bit more. I should look for guides on the site, though. I'm new to having a MT, so I'm not familiar with what's involved.

I have an 06 EXL 6MT and love it. Occasionally it gets tight going into 3rd but I have gotten used to it. I have 72K on it and haven't changed the tranny fluid yet hope too soon. It is a fun car I wish the brakes didn't fade as much under hard breaking...

I went with Amsoil Synth since new and my '08 6-6 shifts like butta now. no issues so far and while i had a horrible 3rd gear engagement grind SINCE NEW, I have it no more.

I keep track of my mileage here. My typical commute is roughly 24 miles a day. It is my ride to work.

I have been getting anywhere from 22.3 to 24.6 (only filled her up three times).
I should try something new; it's coming up on 71,000 and I don't know what the previous owner has had done. According to the Carfax, the "recommended maintenance" was performed by Honda around 47.5K, not sure what that entails.
