Default 2006 Honda accord v6 smoke under hood

Thank you for whatever help you can provide. ill answer questions as i can but more thoroughly thursday,

My kid is driving this while I'm in Maine so can't answer any questions till I get back Friday July 20 2013, thought I'd get the ball rolling though....

Hot hot day, kid, with ac blasting, pulled in to work and someone said saw smoke under the hood. Does kid inspect, no ...

8 hours later kid driving home in traffic, notices smoke but nothing else drives to get something to eat and calls aaa

Aaa says all fluids ok, probably ok to drive so kid drives home, stops for gas notices smoke when stopped and when idling. Kids says black smoke but is really unknowledgeable / unreliable. Kid says smoke is coming from behind engine, down and on passenger side.

I wish shop class was mandatory for today's youth.

HAS ...
Car has over 120000 miles.
Has been in when maint minder alerts for service.
Had timing belt done two years ago.
Had oil Change a month ago.
Had yearly mass state inspection in April.
Front hood replaced 3 months ago due to hit & run but they only damaged top of hood at latch point so suspect a truck / high up vehicle.
Four new tires oct 2011.
Has airbag light on for 6 months, not diagnosed.

HAS NOTS
Has not been in for steering fluid recall yet.
Has not had inside air filter replaced yet (due last oil change according to maintain minder).
Has not had transmission service done (i am 2nd owner, bought in 2008 w 40000 miles).

The power steering hose was recalled for good reason. It could start a FIRE!!!!!!! Stop driving the car, and get that hose changed as soon as possible. Thursday or Friday may be too late.

Thank you for your help. I have scheduled the recall and cabin air filter change for Friday. I know how important these forum threads are and I will update.

They will charge you way too much to change the cabin filter. You don't even need any tools to change it yourself, and it would take 10 minutes tops. Walmart even has the "fresh breeze" filter #CF10134. You can easily find a Youtube video that shows how to change it. Of course, if you have money to burn go ahead and let the dealership change it.

We brought our car to the Honda dealership today. I didn't mention about the smoking because I wanted to see if they mentioned that the recall engaged. when we picked it up they said they had fixed the RECALL and they didn't say anything about anything else so I'm guessing it was just the recall no smoke since but only drove 6 miles, then 5 miles. Will update as appropriate

So how much did they hit you up for the cabin filter? Or did you take my advise?

I absolutely took your advice. It would have been $99. I haven't done it yet but checked out video, will been a money saving snap to DIY. Thank you for noticing and advising.

Your ATF fluid service is way overdued. You will loose your AT if you don't change it immediately. ATF fluid should be changed every 30K. It is weird that your car passed MA inspection with the airbag light on.
