throwing a common code?
what up h/t...my girlfriends 98 Accord check engine light has come on, so i went and got it scanned today at a local shop. came back P1457...the mechanic said something about an EGR or something...not to clear as to what he means, could n/e one else do a better job? thanks in advance...
1457 on your car is the evap. system. The most likely cause is a gas cap left loose.Tighten your cap and clear the codes,if it comes back, you will need to have the evap. system checked out for a leak.

P1457 is an evaporative emmisions code. It has nothing to do with the EGR system.

doing some research, the above post and some sites suggest that P1457 is an evaporative emmisions system code and means there has been a leak detected in the fuel tank area or an insufficient purge flow....english please?
She probably either didn't tighten the gas cap all the way or filled the gas with the car running. Reset the code and see if it comes back...

believe it or not, the gas tank is pressureized by the freakin cap, if the cap is not fully tighten down, the sensor would throw a code thinking there's a leak or the charcoal canister blew up

P1491 & P1498 are for the EGR system. Which do you believe - the number or the description?
Actually, a loose gas cap would throw code P1456 'EVAP leak - fuel tank system'.
Code P1457 is 'EVAP leak - control canister system' which is a system of several valves, a filter, a pressure sensor, & the charcoal canister which is located under the car near the left-rear wheel. The Helm manual has about 8 pages of tests to check which valve or hose or whatever is the problem. You'll need a MityVac, a DMM, & a few jumper wires. One valve is on top of the intake manifold, the others are under the car just forward of the gas tank. The worst possibility is a pressure sensor on the gas tank - gotta drop the tank for that one.
Both P1456 or P1457 would blink 90 if you did the jumper technique to read the code.
