Default sway bar

okay my sway bar bushing is dry rotted.. not only that but i can move my sway bar link up and down.. the little bolt i can move it up and down the bar.. now i've been getting this knocking noise when i turn.... sounds like when an axle click when u turn but this one is like someone is knocking on the door.. knock, knock, knock as i turn.. also i've been getting this pigeon noise when i go over bumps, people as if i have a bird alive or pigeon when i drive around... do you think all this is related because of the sway bar link? let me know thanks alot..

You gotta replace the links and bushings anyway - do it and see if that stops all the noise.

yes, it's very possible thats causing the sounds your hearing. If the endlink is loose, that allows the bar to move up and down.

for example... you are driving along and the bar is say, pushing one way on the endlinks, you go into a turn and one side of the bar pushes the other way on the endlink. Now since there is play in the endlink the bar end moves and when it reaches a stopping point it makes a knock sound as it hits the stop.

The bird noise, or probably creaking sound you hear when going over bumps is probably the sway bar bushings. Make sure you lube them when you install the new endlinks. Here is a write-up by hondadude (can be found in the FAQ).

changed took me 1 hour... pretty ******* easy.. i just save myself 100.00.. car drive smooth.and i no longer get that nasty feeling when i hit bump.. the noise still exist i narrow down thats its the shocks and its leaking.. when u push down on the fender u get that pigeon noise...

1. the sway bar is attached to the frame.. now the bushing goes into the bar and into what... i can't really tell is it the knuckle or what..

i'm starting to think i installed it wrong.. this is how i put it.. the bolt with a washer goes thru the bottom of the lower control arm.. than i squeeze 2 bushing inbewteen the sway bar and lower control arm... than use a washer.. then 2 bushing onto of the sway bar and than top it off with a nut.. does the nut even stop because it looks like i can keep going and going.. but everything is tight and theres no play... rides fine though..

as oppose to this.. bolt with washer and than bushing.. than u place it under the lower control arm with 1 bushing inbetween both bar and than maybe 2 up top... idunno

i think as long as theres 2 bushing inbetween both bars than i'm fine right? i don't know

uh, the way you described it sounds like it's wrong. Kinda hard to tell.

From the link above, it should look like this...

Also, that nut should be torqued to 14 lb-ft.

No, thats how it's supposed to be on every car just about. I did it that way on my 95 Accord EX and on my girls 95 Jimmy when I replaced her endlinks.

I'll see if I can find an better diagram for you.

When the bar is under a big load (cornering) the rubber bushings smoosh out against the large washers, and the dish in those washers controls the flexibility of the connection. The small spacer's job is to space those big washers at the proper distance from each other.
