i have a 1990 acccord ex. the speedometer goes to 30mph when i start it but then it just gets buried. so i switched out the cluster, same thing, so i switched out the vss, same thing. i checked the connectors and wire, looks good. the odometer and all the other gauges work perfect.

 

i just checked all the grounds and cleaned them, they all look good

 

any more suggestions?

 

The fact you switched out the cluster already and the fact the odometer works is strange.

If the speedo doesn't work the odometer doesn't work.... So I'm not sure why one is working and the other is not.

No CEL so the VSS is not the culprit, does cruise control work fine as well?

Only thing I can think of is maybe try another cluster froma friend or something - it's possible but unlikely you have two bad clusters.

When did it start doing this?

no cel as well as the D4 light is not on or blinking.

 

Yeah the fact the odometer works is what gets me.

However if your speedo is stuck at 30mph that would make sense. If the speedo is "buried" at 0mph and doesn't move the odometer does not move either.

It may be possible to take it to a speedo adjustment shop?

 

its only when i start the car, it goes up to 30mph and then back to 0mph, just during startup. other than that it seems to be working fine now. weird cars
