Default Quick question

I have a 98 Honda accord, v6 not sure of the engine type as it is my gf car...my question is when I drive her car and accelerate I notice the rpm going very high before switching into next gear....sometimes it'll even redline 8k before the next gear....does that happen a lot on these cars or it is just mine... And how would I go on fixing this problem ....thanks in advance...

Are you punching it when it does this ? You could always just back off the throttle.

Being an auto and in this gen...doesn't sound good. Are there any stored codes? Is the trans fluid full/proper level?

No codes and full, you can try a drain and fill - or two or three - with Honda Trans fluid and see if it gets better.

If not, well, sounds like the trans is on the way out

It was this way a year ago too before I had the trans rebuild...as far as I can remember it as always been like this...hope it ain't the trans....any more thoughts on this...?..and btw I have a Toyota and I read on a yota forum and I remember someone saying something about tightening the throttle wire or loosening it can make the car rev higher...so if I mess with the throttle wire you guys think it might solve the problem?...by doing the opposite of course...

There is a cable running down to the transmission that give the tranny a general outline of how far the throttle is open. Yes, you could try adjusting that.

NZ - No throttle control cable for the trans on the 6th gens - or newer gens

I've never owned the v6 vtec but I gotta think they are designed to run almost to redline before shifting to utilize the vtec potential. I guess I could be wrong.

I would love to see a video of it acting up.
