Default normal shift points for automatic?

Hey guys I'm new to the whole accord side of things but just picked up a 92 LX automatic the other day. I've been driving a manual for the past 6 years so its a little different with the auto but I kind of like it for simplicities sake.

Anyways I was just wondering what the normal shift points are? Right now the car usually shifts at around 3k rpm but I wish it would shift a little lower for better gas mileage. You can feel the car shift as it kinda surges slightly on upshift, not unsettling but you can tell when it shifts!

Is this normal or do I need to do some work?

That sounds roughly correct.

They have really long gears.
