(This post may be considered to be in the wrong place, if so-my appologies)

I was wanting to build an intake for my v6 accord(the engine code escapes me at this time) Using a carbon can intake pipe off e-bay and a stop at the local auto accesories store. I turned out with this:

Everything seem to fit pretty good. I do plan on building an aluminum housing around it for keeping engine bay heat off of it. I also left in the factory intake/muffler inside the wheel well to act as a constant feed for once it is enclosed. Figured it couldn't hurt. But all in all I spent about $80. and it seems to have been worth while( although I have not done the math to back up this opion. Hope you guys found something here useful.

Looks good, Nice to see someone being creative!

How does it sound with that carbon can on there, it looks like it may act as a sort of resonator and keep down some of the vacuum whistle noise.

Post a vid?

Thanks The can doubles in use ironically. It's main purpose is to serve as the same thing the factory air box. A storage of air reserve (for lack of better words..) for on demand throttle response. How ever it does seem to allow a much deeper tone than usual. In appose to say the adverage 3" intake pipe. The most whistle I get is that to the effect of leaving a T.V. on a station with just a test pattern on. Somewhat of a very high pitch, alomost unotice-able "wheen" sound.

Performance wise I am very satisfied with it (although I do not have any number to show for it). But I also have a throttle body spacer on the way. That makes me very qurious to how that may change the tone of it.

Does that include a carbon fiber pipe and a good quality filter?

A good quality 6" cone filter would cost you at least $30 if not more..... Good luck with keeping dirt out of your engine

I bought the can as a whole peice that was ment for my gen, Accord with a 4 banger. It was over 2 years ago and I have since then not seen alot of them. But Im sure they are out there. I just scavanged mine for the can. So maybe a search for other models might turn up with this type of intake also?

Just finished mocking up a home made air box. Or rather not so much an air box, but rather a type of heat/water splash shield. Its rough in these pics because thats when it was just finished. But since this post I have added rubber trim around all the edges. "Refined" the design a little if you will. Will try to post pics of the finished product when I get some day light

I would be lying if I said any numbers @ this point. But I will say the intake mods combined with the throttle body spacer I got really make a noticeable difference.

E-bay special. Came in an OBX box brand new. Cut billet aluminum. had to find bolts to make it work though. Over a decent purchase for the money.

I don't understand what a TB spacer does on a fuel injected engine...could you educate me on that?

A TB spacer doesn't really do anything in our cars. They say it can add up to 22 Hp and 25 ft/lb of tq. I didn't see any of that. Other than adding 250cc's to your plenum. It also makes a neat whistle noise if you have a CAI or SRI. If you got one of the ones with a "directional flow" Helical type cut in it. It will produce unwanted turbulence into the plenum if it's not sized properly between the TB and plenum, hence the whistle. I never had mine on the dyno so I can't say if it did anything or not. It's didn't change my MPG so that usually indicates that it didn't do anything...

/\/\ Thanks, that's what I thought. I just cannot imagine how it would do anything other than take up space. People continue to buy them though...I don't get it.

Interesting info here- The only thing i trulely noticed was an improved tourqe through the lower rpm's. But again, all I have to show for this is my opinion .I haven't noticed any bad side effects, and the gs mileage as you stated above, really hasn't changed much. Who knows, could be a bunch of . But in worst case senario, aluminum is going for a billion dollars a pound.

I got a k&n, spendy filter but will last a million miles, hence i will never have to buy another air filter...sweet

i just found a intake with a carbon fiber canister for 20 bucks!!!!! i'm going to connect it to a stock air box with no lid but with a filter cover and have a hose going from my bumber to the box to deliver air. there will be another filter inside the box connected to the intake tube. i'll post pictures when i'm done.

Using two filters will negate any advantages of adding this canister below your bumper. Just use one good quality filter at the end of the intake pipe.
