I just started college and I have a 97' Accord, it sits in the parking lot for days without being driven and probably won't be driven unless I choose to travel home. Will this affect the car or cause any problems?

It will, unplug the battery and drive it once a week.
I used to leave my car at college and not drive it.
I would start up to motor every other night.

Willing starting the engine suffice or does it require being driven around as well?

I would recommend... work the brakes a little bit, have the tranny changing gears, turn on the ac (if it works), check the lights or so.... you know... the normal stuff that the car could go through a daily basis....

I think a week after driven, the battery will get weak. Ummm I suggest starting it up every 3 days or so and driving it on the road for 30mins to charge the battery and get the oil moving. And fill the gas tank to full.

Properly inflate the tire and wash it and wax it. If you are concern for the paint.

I just let the motor warm on the cold night and offed it and went to bed.

jsut drive it once a wekend and u will be fine.

if u dont feel like it, then pull the battery and park it for longer,but i would sitll drive it atlesat once a month.

Im in the same situation, i try to start it every few days and let it run. Sometimes i drive it to the nearest gas station to get sodas or whatever else and let it run. I love my accord so i wouldnt want it to think i was abusing it.

pretty much what everyone else said. my accord is pretty much a sleeper. its sits in my garage 98% of the time. but every 3 days i always make it my business to go out side and turn him on and let it idle for 8 minuets and turn on all the lights and put it in Reverse, drive. look under the car to make sure there is no leaks...etc

NO! dont listen to him.

you want to keep the gas in there fairly low, probably 1/4 or less, so when you do drive it every other day or whatever, you can let the gas run threw, and put in a little more gas as your old gas gets used up. that way you will continuously have fresh gas in there.

or just use a bottle of gas stabilizer. whatevers clever.

O really? WOW. Most people told me to do that. Even my auto shop teacher. Said that. I think you're suppose to let it fill up and put some stabilizer to prevent any moisture to build up in the tank. W/E

I've let a car sit parked for 2 or 3 weeks without any problem. If your battery goes dead in 2 weeks you can start looking for problems like parasitic losses or a battery that's just getting old.

It should be driven for 10 or 15 minutes at least to recharge the battery. Starting & idling for a couple minutes is probably not enough to keep it charged. I'm sure you can find an excuse to run some errands every couple weeks.

Keep the tires well-inflated so they don't take a set in one position. But again, a week or 2 isn't that long.

I'd keep the gas tank full.

I start it 1 a week le it run untill the temperature gauge reads normal....then I drive it around the block.....when my license was suspended I started it once every month and didn't have any problems...but as somebody stated keep the gas low so it doesn't get all crappy on you..and oh park it somewhere safe so it doesn't get jacked!

my experiances with high school auto shop teachers is that most of them are dumbasses still living in the days of carbs and solid rear axles. atleast mine was.

I am pretty sure the Honda Owners manual it says fill the tank to full when parking the car for an extended period of time. I read it in one of my Honda owners manuals, not sure which one. I am sure it is basically the same in all of them though.

ya lets put it this way


empty tank(not full) = a tank of air
air got vapor in it

when the weather is cool (night)
vapor turn into water drops (& it won't turn back to vapor, since the car is not running /cool)

water in a gas tank = BAD

engine burns gas, NOT WATER

whenever you dont drive your car for a long time (weeks) especially in sub zero weather (celcius) make sure your gaz tank is full to avoid having water it (caused by condensation)

i havent driven my 01 cupe for almost a month now and i'm going totally nuts. i have to finish a big job on it (trying to do so today) My camshaft looks totally dry loll.. I'll be pouring oil on it before putting back the cover on it just to make sure it wont run dry @ the beginning.

yeah taking the battery out is a good idea especially for long time no-use.

Driving it around is good (especially highway) to get everything spinning like it should instead of just having the engine run.

uhh...not the last time i checked
