Default Getting Power windows up manually!??

Hey guys my drivers side window switch just went out and my window is a bout a quarter of the way down. The motor works because the window will go down but not up. Does someone know how to get the window to go back up? I am going to take the door panel up but I don't know where to put a battery to, to get the window up. Your help would be greatly appreciated. By the way this is for a 97 EX coupe. Thanks alot.

Have somebody hold the switch to up while you grab the glass and pull up. I have had that work before on a couple cars.

Yeah I guess I could try that, I just don't want to break the window. I can just get a new switch, just was wondering if there is a way to get it up by powering the window motor manually.

It is more likely that your power window actuator/motor assembly needs to be replaced. It doesn't rule out a bad switch; but, usually it is the actuator/motor assembly.

If it was only the switch, you could take the door panel off, disconnect the window motor 2-P connector and apply power and ground to to the connector to raise the window back up. Power and ground connected to the 2-P connector will either raise or lower the glass, and when the power and ground are switched the opposite will occur (raise/lower).

If the window goes down doesn't thig rule out the motor?? Is there any other way to get the window up so that it is drivable? I have tried pulling it up and it doesn't work.

No; many times when the actuator/motor goes, the window will only go down and stay down. The window glass is attached to the actuator (in some Accords, it is like an elevator).

If only the switch was bad, you could take off the panel like I said in my previous post and apply power to raise the glass.

But if the actuator/motor is bad, to raise the glass, you might need detach the glass from the actuator or leave the glass attached and manually raise the glass/actuator, and then use wire or something to hold things up temporarily.

Hey I really appreciate the help redbull, I just fixed the problem. Took the switch apart and cleaned the contacts with some contact cleaner and the window is now working just fine. It was all gummed up with crud.

So i know there are ways to get a power window up when the motor goes out. Are there any trusted diagrams for wiring or anything that would help get the window up? Workin on a driver window on a two door 1994 Honda Civic Ex Canadian model.

Good to know OP found a solution.

I just thought I'd add, in case anyone else has a similar problem and stumbles into this thread--my front windows both have problems going up, especially if it's damp outside. They windows seem to bind up and one side of the window will rise and push the whole thing off "off track" a bit (toward the front, so the side nearest the centerpost is higher). I usually have to use my hands to lift the window back into the correct position and if it still binds, I'll push the window up with my hands while activating the switch. I read some bulletins where some mounting bolts or channel bolts might need to be adjusted when the window goes off track. I'll probably be replacing the motor assembly on my car in the spring and checking those mounting bolts when I have the door apart.
