1990 Honda Accord Lx coupe

Is is cheaper to get fuel filter and strainer replaced or get the fuel line flushed?
Car is clogged its not getting gas, slow take off, i hit brakes the car shuts off under a half of tank because dirt gets clogged...

I would think the filter would be cheaper. My '92 accord's filter was under the hood right behind the firewall. Pretty easy access...

Yeah, the fuel filter is very easy to replace. Are you sure that's the problem?

I really dont know what the problem is. it feels like gas is not getting tothe car, i push the pedal to the floor and its taking forever to get gas. people said i should change filter by firewall and in the tank because that it is cheaper

Yes, it's easy. You will need to pick up a 14 mm flare wrench. You can get them cheap as a set from most auto parts stores. Don't use an open end standard wrench as this will strip the threads on the fuel line going to the bottom of the fuel filter. Hold the top part of the fuel filter with a crescent wrench.

The very top bolt you will need to take off is I think is a 17 mm. You can just use a standard box wrench for that.

I think it's a 10 mm to get off the bracket that holds the fuel filter on.

Use the correct tools and kiss headaches goodbye.

Let's just hope it's not a fuel pump issue but the fuel filter is 15 bucks for a Bosch filter. Fix that first and see what happens.

You should also check out the Main Relay. It controls the fuel pump, and is notorious for going out on 90-93 Accords.

i heard some one say that could be a problem but when my tank get under a half tank it starts acting crazy. I hit the brakes while coming to a stop then my car rpms drop to zero then my car cuts off.

you need to find the issue before you start replacing parts, you need to verify fuel pressure, fuel flow etc, if you have a filter so clogged it's stopping the engine, you need to probably clean the tank, replace the filter strainer, possibly pump as it's getting past the strainer, and while you are doing that clear out the lines,

I changed the fuel filter and put sea foam in the tank and the vacuum line, i start back putting 93 back in the car and it started running fine. When we changed the fuel filter it had alot of dirt in it but when its gets under a half tank and when I hit the brake dirt gets clogged in the fuel line and car shuts off, i put it in neutral and it cranks right back up.

if you have dirt in the lines reference my post above, tank needs to come off and be cleaned, why clean the lines when dirt will keep coming from the tank

where did you get this car? I've heard of this a lot from cars that have been flooded then sold at auction, the tanks are full of mud
