Hey guys im doing a timing belt and i wanted to know exactly how to go about the front main seal install. Do i just get a pick pull out the old one. Oil the new one. And tap it on with a block of wood and go until flush, maybe slightly slight in alittle ? Am i supposed to use hondabond ? I guess if i use hondabond then i can not oil it.

i just use a scratch awl and poke it through the face of the seal and pry it out, that way I don't scratch the shaft or outer sealing surface. Then I lightly oil the outer diameter of the new seal and get it in place by hand, then using a axle socket of the right size I tap the new seal into place.

i was told you can pry it out with a flat head screw driver from the outer edge. bad advice. your suppose to pry it out from the inner ring. i pryed it out from the outer edge and damaged the block. by the way which is very soft because that seal is a motha trying to get out. i finished my auto to manual swap and proceed to break in my clutch. 300 miles in i lost my clutch gradually after my clutch had warmed up everytime i went for a spin. why. the main seal leaked. oil saturated by disk to the point that it would just slip. i ended up getting a shop to fix it. i had a hunch what the problem was and it was because the damage to the block. they had to use hondabond to patch her up. no leaks afterwards though. you really don't have to change it unless it leaking. i changed mine just because i was doing the swap.

well i already installed it just needs to go in alittle more.

i just used a 1/4 extension and light hammered it in going around the whole seal.

have you replaced the clutch? or just cleand it up?

thats exactly why I punch a scratch awl through the face of the seal and pry it out that way so I dont scratch the shaft or outer edge.

your supposed to use a flat head on the inner diam of the seal not the outer. you have to use abig enough screwdriver to get enough leverage but small enough to fit in the small space. you hammer it straight in lightly. then you twist and pry against the center shaft. you can usually removal those seals within 10 seconds with that method. also u dont lube the outside of the seal, u lube the inside and i would use bearing grease but u can use oil if u dont have bearing grease.

i had to replace the clutch. if the oil is light, i think i remember seeing you can put brake cleaner on it. let it dry and reinstall. brake cleaner seems to clean everything.
