Default Checking timing, quick question

I have recently put on a new distributor cap and rotor and still have not been able to get rid of the pinging while going up a hill. It has diminished but I'm sick of having to use premium dammit! I got a timing light today and I wanted to check timing but I left my haynes manual at my friends house. So my question is:

When adjusting timing how do I put the engine in "service mode"? I know how to use the light and how to do everything but I just dont know which connection I'm supposed to jump.

Also, which side of the engine the number one piston at? I searched and dint find it.

Anyway thanks in advance.

It's underneath the glove compartment. Try searching.

On my 4th gen Civic it was a blue two pin connector under the dash. You don't state the vintage of your Accord and it's probably different.

Ok sorry guys. I did start by searching but I didn't think of searching for the location I searched for a general search for a timing how to. After more extensive and complete search, here is the revised question.

On a 94 Accord EX.

Which holes in the service cable do I jump?

I found two pins, one said ABS only so I left it alone, the other was a blue double. One has 3 holes, the other 2.

Sorry for the lack of information. Prolly coulda had an answer by now with a little more work on my part.

look under the passanger side dash for the 2 pin blue connector. Put a piece of wire or paperclip into the connector to short it.

ok thanks for everyone's help.

I checked the timing and I dont think it could be more dead on. I have replaced spark plugs and dizzy cap and rotor. So tommorrow I'm gonna head out and get some new NGK spark plug wires. Couldn't hurt. I thought about retarding the timing a bit to try to eliminate the pinging but I want to put in the wires to make sure I'm not just compensating for another part not working correctly.
After that I will see about changing the timing.

Anyway thanks for your help. (if anything is wrong with the thought process above feel free to set me straight)
