Check engine lite
Are you sure it's the check-engine light? The 'maintenance required' light blinks on startup when you're getting close in mileage, but I don't think the CEL is supposed to act like that.
That just counts miles since the last time it was reset. It probably tells you to get an oil change every 7500 miles, along with whatever else is scheduled at longer intervals.
Do your normal scheduled maintence according to the owner's manual or more often if you want. Here's how to reset the maintenance light on your 6th-gen:
1 - Key completely off.
2 - Press & hold trip-odometer reset button.
3 - Continue to hold the button as you turn the key 'ON' (don't need to actually start engine).
4 - Continue holding the button for maybe 20 more seconds. The light will eventually go out.
