95 gsr....when you start the car and the check engine light starts flashing longer than usual does that mean that the ecu is throwing a code or is it just a maintenance thing...should I just reset it, or should I get it checked out.

The car feels fine by the way

 

My '00 GSR has been doing the same thing lately. It takes about 25 seconds before the "maint required" light stops blinking. I called the dealer and he said that it was because it needed routine maintenance and that it could be reset by the button under the dash. Well, the button didn't do it.

Anyone else have any ideas?

 

Well, the check engine light and the maintenance light are two different things.

If the check engine light stays on during the drive, you have a code being thrown.

The maintenance light should come up every 7500 miles. It shouldn't stay that long after the car has been started.

 

The maint req'd light blinks more often than normal when it's close to reaching 7500 miles, than it stays constantly lit after that. When you turn the car on, hold the button down while it's lit; the light should shut off.

 

Kacerdias, it's not simply pressing the button and it will clear. Just reach underneath hold the button down about 10 seconds and I think if I remember it will do a very brief flash and you should be cleared for another few thousand miles

Chk Engine and Maint Rqd are two different lights serving different purposes.

There are clear descriptions for both in the owner's manual and what the owner should and can do with these lights when they come on.

 

sorry guys, it was the maintenance requiered light.
I just reset mine.....to reset it you turn off your car, hold down that button that's on the right hand side of the steering collum, you turn your key to the on position but don't actually turn on your car and keep holding the button until the light stops flashing. You then turn the key back to the off position and then start your car and BINGO
