Bought a 97 Accord with a motor swap
I probably should have asked the previous owner more questions than I did, because now I can't get in touch with him and really don't know a lot about the car. It's titled as a 97 Honda Accord ULX. It has a F22A1 motor that I was told was out of a Prelude. It had all the gaskets done, water pump and timing belt done, when the new motor was put in. There are receipts for those. My problem is trying to identify what vehicle this engine came out of. I'm also not sure if the intake is matched to the motor or might be off a different motor as I've read the H series intakes can fit and flow better. Can anyone give me some ideas what the previous owner may have done? I'm going to check the ECU tomorrow, and see what model it is. I'm also going to use some paint thinner to get the paint off the intake. Not sure why the idiot decided to paint everything black.

And after more research it seems the ULX on the title was a typo at some point in it's life so now it really has me confused as to what I have.

Okay so it's definitely been swapped then since I have a 97 Accord. So if I were to reference parts, lets say the oil filter, I'd be looking for one for a 90-93 accord? I'm guessing that looking at the ECU might shed a bit more light on what it came from since it'd likely be the ECU from the car the motor came from? I was told a prelude so I'm guessing that's the case. If it's from an earlier prelude wouldn't that ECU be OBD 1? I'm thinking I might have to take it to a tuning shop and let them figure it out. The swap was sloppy at best. The wires are all electrical taped. I'd of liked to see a bit better insulation like heat shrink tubing.

Trying to see if I can get to it tonight lol I'm really curious. Also, to me it seems like common sense but shouldn't the headers have all the nuts on? It looks like only half of the posts have nuts on them the others are just kind of hanging out. time to go tear up the floor again to get to the ECU.

F22Ax and F22Bx engines are nearly identical so common things like your filter will be exactly the same.
Check for some wiring done on things like the distributor section of the harness and whatnot. It is possible that the stock 97 ecu still remains. You don't need to convert the ecu to OBD1 to run the older engine, just annoying wiring. But since you are probably halfway there, go ahead anyways, takes a few minutes/

I'm guessing its the stock ECU then, there's definitely splicing and messing with wires around the distributor. But the previous owner said something about a performance ECU in it.

Not sure why the radiator fan timer.... just noticed that while digging under the glove box. There are wires that are modified on the fan harness at the radiator fan so perhaps a switch or sensor went bad?

It would appear I have the stock ECU still after searching up the number. It says its for a 97 Accord manual transmission. So it's definitely not tuned lol

Re: Bought a 97 Accord with a motor swap
Okay I had another question... in my first post with the pictures, the very last picture, in the bottom left there's a small black hose running from the throttle body. Should this connect to something? I'm trying to locate a vacuum leak and that hose has a screw in the end of it to plug it. Not sure if it was for one of the systems that was removed, a system that the donor car had that the 97 accord does not.

Coolant flows through that hose to prevent throttle body freeze over. The metal section on the bottom is a 90 degree elbow no? If so that's what I'm referring to.
It's possible to chip an OBD2 ecu, it's just ridiculously expensive. Not to mention finding the chip required is very hard to locate.

This is the hose that strikes me as a little fishy.
The car has had the AC system deleted, and the Power Steering system deleted. I wish it would have been less modified so I knew what was done and how. lol
I'm guessing the only way to know for sure if it's chipped would be to open the ECU cover and look for tampering? Not something I feel comfortable doing.

Re: Bought a 97 Accord with a motor swap
They look like that since the engine swap must have included the intake manifold as well as A manifolds don't fit B engines and vice versa. The ECU has 4 screws and it's super easy to open up. You won't damage it in any way by opening it up. The P0J is the stock DX/LX/Special edition and it can't be modified in any way so you're basically running that ECU with either an older Accord or Prelude engine as previously stated.
