Default bogging problem

hey guys im from the CRX-EF forum. A friend of mine has a 97 accord lx i beleive. and when he puts the gas to the floor in 2nd or 3rd gear the motor doesnt go past 4k rpm's and it stutters for like 2 seconds then jumps to redline. i wasnt sure if the ECU is under the passenger side carpet i didnt want to rip it up on him not knowing where it is, i wanted to see if it was throwing a code. so my question is to you. do you know what is causing this? and how to fix it. and also am i right is that where the ECU is. that is where mine is i just have no idea if they changed the placement. thanks a lot my thought was fuel injectors. and the problem just started and he has had his engine light on for quite some time. he has approx. 85K on the car.

TRY THIS!!!
Honda of america is extending warranty for their 96-97 accord for the emission up to 130K.
I called them and got this warranty for Free.
IF the engine light ever comes on the car, honda will replace the entire emission system which included the distributor, plugs, plug wires, fuel filter, and everything else.
So tell him to call honda, and he might be able to get this fixed for free.
good luck

i had an opposite problem, but my 95 is an ex, so it has a vtec engine...so I doubt the problem is the same as your friend's

anyway, the vtec engagement point at around 4100 rpm's...on my car, you could floor it, but it wouldn't do anything until it reached 4100, and then it would take off. It's because the honda dealer messed up during a recall, and one of the cams (not the vtec one) was off, so then it wasn't working. They had to open the engine up and re-align it or something before the engine was back to normal.

you're right about the ecu
