The B20a's and the B21a's are the outcasts of the B series, not much of anything is compatible with other B engines. However, they, IMO, are great motors. Excellent for turbos.

can you tell anyone why they are outcasts? I mean, I was thinking about buying one of these and wswapping a B18A head on it, and laying it off in my Civic Si...
I like the HP and TQ numbers that I found posted.

What excatly is NOT compatible? I mean will the heads not work or something? I thought ALL B series went together.

Re: B20A5 swap in to a 89 accord LX-i (CRneXt)
When I looked the 2.1 put out 135 hp. and 140 ft.lbs. or torque. the 2.o DOHC 16v puts if I;m not mistaken 130 hp. and 127 ftlbs. My girl has an 89' 2.0 s and I wish I could swap a DOHC B-series from a 90 Prelude but I need to change the whole fuel system. If you accord is fuel injected it would be a fact of mounting the motor/trans and wiring but if its carburated then you need the fuel tank, lines and, wiring for a fuel injected accord.

If I recall correctly the B20a is a SOHC engine while the B20B and B20Z are DOHC engines similar to the LS motor

Re: B20A5 swap in to a 89 accord LX-i (BoostedH22Accord)
There is a JDM version of the b20a that went into JDM 2nd gen preludes with 160hp.
All B20a's and B21's are very much so DOHC, except for the b20a3 that came in 88-91 Prelude S models, it is SOHC and carbed.
The b20a5 doesn't bolt into anything except for the 3rd gen prelude; because of the extremely low hood angle of the prelude, the engine tilts WAY back in the bay, meaning the motor mounts have to be different than everything else.

it wont fit without custom mounts, the negine leans the wrong way. you could get it in with stick ounts but then you could not close the hood.

Re: B20A5 swap in to a 89 accord LX-i (v4lu3s)
I stand corrected... I knew one of those were SOHC I almost got one shipped to me for $600 when I was building a B20 Vtec for my CRX then the guy called me back and told me he had the B20a for $600 and the B20B for $1000. Still got it then sold it all... What a sucker.

Are those B20's and B21's able to use the same tranny's as the B16's and B18's? What works and what doesn't. I'm intrested iin hearing about these. So much hype placed on the cousins B series Vtec motors, these got lost in the shuffle.

Matter fact it had the exhaust manny and down pipe too. ( kinda bent up from shipping ) But none the less they were included.
