Default Air Conditioning Issue

I have a issue I could use some help with. My honda is a 95 vtech 4 cycle with about 240,000 miles. When it is really hot (everyday here in Houston) it takes a long time to cool and the car runs not correct, almost like the fuel filter is clogged or the fuel pump is not working correctly. If I turn off the air conditoner the car runs great. Last night I ran the air conditioner at night when it was cooler and the car ran great. Is this issue a function of the compressor, condensor, or something else. I have recharged my system and I know I have a small leak somewhere but that would not account of the rough running. Thanks so much

What are the high and low side readings of the AC system.

Check, adjust the blend door...also be sure the **** isn't broken.

Have you cleaned the IAC anytime recently.

I will check these reading and get back with you. Not sure what the blend door is or the IAC but I will find out for sure. This at least gives me something to work on. Thanks so much.

I had a similar problem with the A/C on my 94. When I would turn it on, the car ran terrible. Pulled the idle down further than usual and just barely kept you from sweating but you certainly weren't cool. I cleaned the IAC-found it and how to do it right here in the FAQ for accords on this website. That took 30 mins and made a huge improvement.
After seeing the difference that made, I cleaned my egr. That took an hour--again, how to do that right here on this website-- and that made the biggest difference in how the car ran, and not just when the a/c was on.

Lastly, I had my windows tinted. This made a huge difference too. Now, the difference is night and day in the car and it runs like a new one. That's with 275k (on the body, don't know on the engine/trans) and a sunroof here in SC. Been in high 90's last couple weeks. But I'm riding cooooool.

Try those. It will make a difference. Hope this helps

Been behind on reading posts, sounds like you are on your way...(IAC)Idle Air Control. The blend door/air mix adjustment can be found in the manuals (Sec 21 pg 25). Basically making sure the cables (there are two) from the **** to the "mix" door and then the heater control valve are set correct...meaning the mix door is closed all the way and the heater control valve is closed all the way....I asked about the **** as it is pretty common for them to break where the shaft meets.

Thanks so much for all your help. I cleaned out the IAC, ok so that is a pain to remove, but it made a huge difference. Next step is to clean the egr and open the holes up. That should also help. The air conditioner is working so much better and with the vss replaced if is like a I have a new car only one with 250,000 miles. I will check on the blend door/air mix adjustment also.

Thanks for the update. Sounds like you are "gaining" ground.....good luck.....I'm at just over 368K on a 95 (knock on wood)....take care of it and it will be a loyal friend.

Pardon my lack of knowledge on the subject, but I'm not seeing how the IAC and EGR are related to the AC. To me those components seem like they're independent of the AC and would be for just helping the engine run more smoothly. Can anyone enlighten me, because I'm genuinely curious to know. Thinking I will probably try this on my car as well.

Did the IAC and FITV. IAC was pretty caked with junk, thanks for the tips!

What is engine typically supposed to idle at when first starting and later on after the engine has warmed up?

Bebo, not sure what year you have....on my 95 EX 4cyl.....At start it would go to around 1,500 rpm's then idle down to ~750 rpm's.

for your other question, the ac being on puts extra load on the engine...it needs to "adjust" for this load, this is where the IAC comes in. The EGR chamber and valve cleaning is more for overall engine performance.

Got a 96 LX 4cyl. I'm pretty much dead on with those numbers on RPMs. Thanks!
