1999 Accord Climate Control screen dark but blower stuck on
Hello folks,
I am thinking my climate control is possessed. This car is a bone stock EX 4dr sedan w a 3.0 and AT. Everything was fine one day and the next day the climate control screen is blank and none of the controls function. But the blower motor is running at all times when the ignition is on. If the head lights are off everything turns off w the ignition. But if I have the headlights or running lights on when I shut the car off the blower will continue to run until the lights are off. All fuses are good. Swapped the blower motor relay w a new one and no change. I also bought a known good climate control assembly and installed it w no change to the symptom. I’m not the best electrical diag guy but I’m no chimp either. But I’m at a loss.
Any ideas was where I might look to resolve this would be highly appreciated.
Its winter and we we have lots of snow and I tend to like heat and defrost in these conditions. Lol
cheers and thanks in advance.

Sounds like a short in the wiring or a component.
Does the blower stay on?
- Remove driver's side under-dash Fuse No. 3 (7.5A).
- Turn ignition off.
- Turn the headlights on.

How certain are you the 2nd climate control module is good? They seem to be trouble prone in 6th gens. The one in my car kinda does what it wants when it wants.

It was functioning in the donor w no symptoms. This is reminding me of some old vw’ bugs I’ve had where you had to tap the horn twice and rub your belly to get the signals to work. Lol

Re-insert the fuse. With the ignition switch turned off, measure if there is power (battery voltage) at driver' side Fuse No. 3.
It shouldn't have power with the ignition switch turned off. If there is power with the switch turned off, it may be due to a faulty ignition switch.

No power indicated on fuse #3 w key off. I do believe my car qualifies for the ignition switch recall but the only issue it’s shown is the ‘key in’ chime is intermittent

Ok. I turned on the ignition, then the lights, then cycled key off which leaves the fan on (mystery mode), went to probe fuse #3 and as soon as the probe touches the metal fuse probe element the fan shuts off. No illumination on test light even for the instant that it touches the fuse. Lights stayed on. Repeated 3x w same result.

Ive been puking around w this issue and I’ve found that I don’t have power to the Illumination + wire that plugs into the control unit.
Curious if this could be a pcm issue... ideas?

The Red/Blk wire is the illumination (+) wire. Is there an issue with other things like the glove box light, driver's and passenger vanity mirror lights, moonroof switch light, hazard switch light, clock, audio unit, etc.; when the headlight switch is turned on? If not, then that circuit is not the cause. The PCM is not part of that circuit regardless. The driver's MICU is though.

No issues w any lights anywhere in the car. So far I have no power to the black ( pass side of control module ) connector. I do have constant power to the why/yes fuse 13 wire at the Grey connector. And power w the key in at the blu/wht mode/vent wire at the connector.
I tested the blower motor resistor and it has continuity across 1-3 and 2-4 but nothing in any other configuration. Not sure if that says it’s good or bad or if it might even be a culprit. Aaaahhhhhhhhh!!!!
I have worJed on just about every kind of car in the last 30 years and the last ten have been mostly Land Rovers. I can wire a race car or a hot rod from scratch but this kind of diag makes me pull my hair out. 🤪. I can’t thank you enough for your time and energy on this. 🙏🙏🙏
