Default 1992 honda accord LX electrical problems

Hey everyone,

I have been having some problems for a while with my 1992 Honda Accord LX, but I have been too lazy to fix them. Now, After a long time I have decided that I need to fix it, because its been too long!

There are actually quite a bit of problems with the electrical components. My first problem is that my INT setting on my wiper blades, as well as my interior overhead light just don't work. They seemed to go out at the same time, so I don't know if there is any correlation between them. Anyways, I took the light out and checked the bulb to see if it blew, and it was just fine. I hooked up a voltmeter to the light socket, and instead of seeing a consistent 12 V when i turned the light on, the voltmeter was just reading a small voltage that fluctuated rapidly. Does anyone know what could be wrong there?

Also, I have noticed that my back right break and tail light just do not work. I also have checked the bulbs, and they are just fine. Does anyone know what could be wrong here?

I decided to check the fuses, but since I lost the panel that covers the fuses, I couldn't find a fuse box diagram. So, I just decided to check EVERY fuse, and there were no fuses that were bad! Could anyone help me on this issue?

Thank you,

Greg

take a voltmeter and do a contenuity check of the wires....like check from the light to the fuse box(after you have gone to a junk yard and got your fuse diagram) inside of the car...and then chek from your inside fuse box to the engine bay fuse box....usually there problems in the engine fuse section cause those wires are outside of the car....check that and see....good luck

Personally I wouldn't recommend doing a voltage drop all the way from the light to the fuse box. I don't know off the top of m head, but i can probably guess that their are a number of resistors between the two. You need to get a wiring diagram and check from resistor to resistor to cut down your path. if your DVOM is showing a low votage reading with a fluxuating reading, most of the time that is a sign of a short somewhere--usually a short to ground. Next most likely problem would be a disconected or corroted line somewhere in your wiring.

Good Luck!

I had lots of problems with the tail lights/brake lights on my 91 Accord. The problem turned out to be moisture from leaky gaskets around the tail light assembly (or possibly the trunk seal) that corroded the electrical connections in a small black plastic junction box inside the right-rear tail light access panel in the trunk. I ended up throwing away the junction box and just soldering all of the connections using the box as a guide.
