Seriously, what does being Mexican and the EF discussion thread have to do with one another?

after changing the clutch saftey switch...and checking the main relay......I will never sell my EF....luckily the interior was out cause i was laying in the car upsidedown with my feet in the trunk/hatch area and my head under the dash
turns out I left the ground off on the rear harness under the hatch latch hooked it up, started right up!

I thought of a new way to rep EF's by putting this in my signature:
EF by choice
or
choose EF!
or
EF driver by choice not circumstance
This is to show all those that we rock EFs because we choose to even when we can afford more expensive cars

I disagree. Look at the new Si and Type R....it's a reflection of the past. I do agree though, the old Hondas (and toyotas and nissans) are pretty cool though. The simplicity of them is what does it for me. More with less.

I think the soul-ness takes time. I bet the 99-00 body style Si will be the most highly sought after right behind the Type R, prior to all the '01 changes, of course. Call me a Honda fan boy, but I've loved every one I have owned (all 10+).

Don't blame Honda for the weight, thank the U.S. government and the U.S. auto makers for creating massive hunks of crap like the Hummer. Everyone here wants bigger and tougher. In order to keep the Honda's safe, they have to utilize airbags and other safety features. The byproduct of the safety is weight. The U.S. laws are also affecting the overall design of the new cars. IIRC, they now require at least 3 inches between the bonnet and motor head. This is for pedestrian safety (think human head to motor head contact). If foreign auto makers want to sell cars in the U.S., which is a 300 million people market, they have to abide by the laws. This is why the newer cars are bubblier.
All of this is similar to the German vehicles. Because of the Autobahn, they VWs, BMWs, etc. are built like tanks. They have to be, or their gov't won't allow them to be built. (Golf hatch = 3200-3300lbs
)
As far as Honda's go, the Fit is probably the lightest at just over 2400lbs. The only reason it can keep it's weight down is because it's an economy car, so they use less sound deadening and cheaper materials for things like the interior.
I can't argue the matter of appearance, that's all opinion. Personally, I think Honda did an awesome job designing the new Civic body style, both 2 and 4 door. If you can get past the fact that the DC5 is a 2800+lb pig, it's a great looking car as well.
Honda is also branching out on things like the Element SC and Civic Si. The SC looks 100x better than the other Elements and it's geared towards our generation. The new Si has a real Vtec motor, LSD, and they grossly under estimated the power, mainly to keep insurance costs down for, again, people like us. Guys are reporting 190whp is stock trim.
Don't get me wrong, I love the EF, always have. You can drop in a K20 with i/h/e/ecu and run 11s for crying out loud. Not to mention, the 35mpg you'll get on the way to the track.
I take offense to you calling the hand assembled, 50/50 weight distribution, 120hp per liter, Japanese roadster a "box of sh*t." You have to have worked for Honda for 10yrs, then be invited to work at the plant where they are made. Did you know there are only 3 welds in that car done by a machine?

I have driven every generation civic, from 3g to current. While I would have to say 88-91 is my favorite, the others are not junk. Except maybe the 2001-2005 Civic, and 93-97 Del Slow. EGs and EKs are not that bad, but still no CRX. Be happy about the good changes, I mean the addition of a B series engine long overdue in the 99 Si was a great step for the US market. Sure we had the Del Slow VTEC, but I won't get into that, it was a travesty, and caused allot of the doubt I have in the Honda motor company, and Chase the Del Slow is a piece of ****. I at lest give Honda credit for not calling that atrocity the most of prestigious names, here in the states like they did overseas.
You cannot deny that the 01-05 Civics were garbage. I had a coworker who had both a 2001 EX, and a 2002 Si, they were both rubbish. In a straight line drag race neither could even take out my 90 DX I had at the time. In the corners, they felt, heavy, and wish washy. The only good thing about them was the dash mounted shifter, it was just a watered down POS, with Mac Struts, and new motors still only making the 1990 Japanese standard horsepower wise. It was absurd, then finally they gave us what they should have years ago. A 200hp, LSD equipped, proper handling automobile. Sure it is heavy but having driven one, it is hard to feel the weight, except in a straight line. Everyone makes mistakes, and given the market in the US, and the Safety Standards, you really can't blame Honda. Except for the Del Slow, and the 2001-2005 civic, they were clearly mistakes. The rest I really cannot hold Honda responsible. The new civic, is a bit of redemption though.
This is what's wrong with America. Take my boss for example. She's like 43, both kids have moved out, but she just went and bought an Infinity QX56. It's a 3 ton bus and she is only the person ever in it. I can't stand to ride with her, it's got a gauge that says she's getting 13mpg and she's ALWAYS on her cell phone.
People like her are the main reason I bought a Fit. I have to think safety for my family, an '84/'85 tin can won't stand a chance against SUV's like hers. They shouldn't even call those SUV's, it's a status commuter.
