I have a olympus e300,pentax k100d super and a canon rebel. The pentax has worked great so far.

 

I just sold a D40 with kit lens and several other goodies including memory card for $400.

Good ol' Nikkor 50mm f1.8d AF with a 52mm UV filter . Definitely the best bang for the buck lens and I got everything new for about $100 USD.

Ditto on just buying a used Nikon body. I've been contemplating selling the D70 with the kit lens + other goodies and picking up a used D80 body seeing as it has pretty much the same chip as the D200. I've been saving up for a VR lens + a D2S for like a year now though . I dunno, I just find spending money on photography equipment much more justifiable than spending it all on my car haha .

 

But you can always make that money back if you set up a website and do some advertising for amuture photography.

That's what I plan on doing pretty soon.

Plus you get your name out there

 

^LOL, I should start doing that. Charging money for softcore shoots. I'm not trying to make it big or get my name out there . I'm just another amateur photo-enthusiast trying to get better at it .

50mm FTW!!!! I got one for Christmas, never have expierence such clear shots with a $100 lens. DOF is crazy too

I purchased my 50mm the day after I got my rebel xt. it's the only lens I use most of the time.

i love it in black and white though. i've used the 50mm 1.4 and i'll pony up eventually, oh the 85mm f/1.8 is hot sex too...soo stinkin sharp. use that for any portrait

Are you talking about the 50mm f1.4 manual? If so, I have one in my camera bag from the 70's . Rarely ever use it though, but it's definitely a keeper. Picked it off of a F4 dirt cheap at a used camera shop in Japan .

I made $500 for doing a friend's wedding this past october.

 

I did a wedding for free...

 

that sucks! This was my first wedding, but I wasn't about to do it for free while other photographers charge 1500+ and provide FAR LESS coverage than I did. Even some of them taker shitty pictures. I don't consider myself a great photographer, but I'm not a slouch. especially if I'm being paid to do it. Another friend of mine had a pro photog do her wedding and the pictures looked like they came out of a point and shoot.
